I ended up having a bit of a debate the other day in which system was the overall better retro home computer. So I'm putting it to you, which in your opinion would win in the home computer stakes?

For me it had to be the Amstrad CPC, it had everything I needed and a great monitor. It also had the best Dizzy soundtrack!

Moderators, any chance of a poll?

I owned the Speccy, Amstrad, BBC and the C64 at one time, difficult to choose between them. Doomdarks Revenge edges it into first place for the Speccy. Fourth place goes to the Amstrad, dunno why but never got on with it. BBC was good for Elite, but is edged into second place by the C64 which has better games.

C64 no contest. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a loser fanboy and gay.

:)

Am I setting the right tone for this thread?

C64 all the way.

The sound was astonishing the GFX was the best of any 8-Bit

I dare anyone to post any song from any other 8-bit that's better then this:

And of course

Owned them all but I would say:-

1. C64 (Better gfx and sound than 2.)
2. ZX Spectrum (Attribute clash and poor sound pushes it into 2, still my favourite)
3. Amstrad CPC (Good machine but a bit bland)
4. BBC B (Apart from Elite games were pretty poor, good BASIC though)

I'd say I'm very much biased on the fact that I had an Amstrad and it was also the green screen version. Every time I load up an emulator I always play Dizzy in green screen mode. I had played the spectrum at a friends house and to be honest my Amstrad just felt so much more

C64 does have the best remixes that's for sure ;)

Also to note that in part it's thanks to Commodore of the C64 that the Amiga came to be!

Had a 464 myself; the monitor made it stand out for me, I did like the Spectrum but the lack of colours put me off. I would have had a C64 for some better games but the 464 having a monitor is why I ended up with what I did.

After the aforementioned computer I went Atari 1040ST and Amiga 500, yum!!!

After that I went PC and never looked back 286 SX in da house ;)

Some games were visually better on the C64 and others on the CPC464.
No doubting the C64 had the better sound hardware.

C64. Best sound hardware. Best catalog of games. Best programming language that is still being pushed further today than anyone expected in the demoscene.
