C64 for me just because I had one & played it constantly for ages, A proper home gaming PC. :D

I had speccy 48k then a +2 then a +3.. Great machines. Who can forget head over heels and knight tyme. And all those magazines, I got my letter published in S.U. I think it was? all those pokes and cheats.. Aah marvellous. So for me it's he speccy.

C64 for me. I had a VIC20 and later progressed to the 64. What was so great about these machines was the dedicated chipsets for sound and graphics. I have so many fond early memories of those days.

A mate of mine a had a VIC20 and when I went round and saw it I asked him to turn it on for me as i had never seen one. He didn't play on it any more as he had a C64.

So he connects it up to the TV and turns it on, next minute plumes of toxic smoke comes bellowing out the back and my mate was frantically getting behind the cabinet where the plug socket was to turn it off. I thought it was funny he did not. VIC20 RIP.:D

C64 - it was clearly superior to the rest, by which i mean the spectrum - the amstrad doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence. you might as well put the dragon32 or the acorn electron in if you are going to put the crappy amstrad in!

Hardware wise the C64 was superior but the basic interpreter was bloody awful, poke this, peek that. We weren't a rich family but my father was in the electronics business and always managed to get hold of second had Commodore machines for me, so I went from a Vic 20 - C64 - C128 and then I bought myself an Amiga when I was flush a few years later, always loved Commodore machines.

Sorry to go off topic but.....

This has just brought the whole demise of Commodore back to me :( :(

I love Workbench and proud to say I do (Also Directory Opus for the win!), It would have been great to see where Workbench could have gone as an OS (I don't count AmigaOS 4.1 as genuine Workbench so that doesn't count).

:( :(

I played on a friends Amstrad, but didn't like the drab green screen.

I had a 48k Spectrum for a few years, I then bought a second-hand Commodore 64, thought it was a lot better, especially the sound effects.

Amstrad 6128k had a far better colour pallet than both the C64 or Spectrum.

I had and amstrad with disks a friend had a C64 and my cousin had a Spectrum 128k both tape drive.

Disks blew the other two out of the water games loaded in seconds not minutes.

I honestly can't be unbiased about this. We got a C64 when I was too young to even realise there were alternatives.

It introduced me to gaming, programming. In fact everything geeky I do today stems from it. It is probably the inanimate object that had the biggest impact on my life, by far,

Back in the 80's I wanted a C64 but Santa delivered me a CPC464 with colour monitor and a tuner box so i could watch TV on it. Still gutted i never got a C64.

Like Rodney I started my computer journey on an Amstrad CPC6128, although unlike poor Rodney I had a colour monitor :p

Speccy for me tbh. My earliest ever computer memory was trying to play Thomas the Tank Engine on it but being terrible at it. Also the loading screech still haunts me to this day...
