I don’t think the Clio Williams as mentioned above has hit that inflation point yet.
Alternatively a Clio mk1 16v or Renault 19 16v both seemed great when I was younger.
Very rare though.

There is no real modern equivalents. They are all much heavier and don't have the livelyness.
Clio 197/200's are great little cars that get a bit overshadowed by the previous 182 and the Mégane but they're raw enough feeling with a good amount of power once wound up and handle well too.
Also haven't reached that silly price point where a 200k mile dog still commands good money yet either
