Being slightly bored at work I have been reading GD today and have noticed that most of the threads started today have been topical or interesting ones. However, most of them seem to very quickly descend into farce with people posting stupid replies which then end up turning into petty squabbles.

Now I admit I don't venture in here much and rarely post, but is this what its always like in here??? I'm all for witty replies in threads that are intended to be funny, but making light of a genuine attempt to provide something interesting for OcUK members (and lurkers) to read seems stupid and strikes me as slightly childish, and only really something to get ones post count up.

I like a laugh as much as anyone and have to say these forums have provided me with many laughs while bored at work, but getting someone's thread locked because it's been so badly derailed and dragged off topic makes me wonder why some people bother. I know this is General Discussion and is meant for discussing topics that aren't covered in any other part of the forums but today it seems like this part of the forums should be called Derailed/Locked/Deleted Threads

I realise this one will probably end up the same but I don't mind, I don't come in here much :D

Discuss, if you can be bothered...

You'll probably also notice that it's the first or second reply that goes for the 'comedy', or offensive, post. Usually a set group of people that do it too. It's a shame as there's no in-between of SC and GD - ones usually very intelligent discussions (not always what I want to read) and the other is at the opposite end of the scale.

GD has it's ups and downs, it just happens that you visit GD in a decline :(

I must admit, I have noticed a lot more silly bickering over the last week or so.

Burnsy

The phrases "quick, to the internetz", "kill it with fire", "nuke from orbit", "punch her in the face" should be added to the banned list imho.

We could start our own mini area in the testing sub forum. That way all the people posting to up their post count won't be able to up it as it doesn't count in the testing forum.

Come on guys, lets go!

While I agree wholeheartedly, to be perfectly honest it's the same with 95% of internet forums nowadays. There was a time, albeit brief, some years ago where forums were a vehicle for sensible discussion, debate and conversation. However, certain forums appear to have had a sizeable influx of kids in the school holiday periods etc. This leads to immature drivel in threads, which in turn leads to the creation of those pathetic "this thread is boring/derailed/failed" images, which seem to have spread to more or less every forum on the net. More and more of the younger generation with too much free time on their hands (refer to the jobs for kids thread) and this is the result.
