• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

And the Cypress shader count is...

Have you tried buying something from the US? not to mention you usually lose any warranty on it, you generally get slapped with VAT, import duty and handling fees and often it works out more expensive in the end than cheaper.

Yep. Ive had a number of cards from the US and never been charged anything.

Shipping last time was $40 for two cards IIRC.

It worked out at a very decent price and the warranty is much better than what same company offers in Europe. 3 years and includes modifications to the card like fitting a water block or flashing the BIOS.

Oh, and I had the cards before the UK release.

Edit: I have had one card take three weeks to arrive.

I've not ordered that much from the US - but on the odd times I have I've almost always been slapped with a ton of charges :(

So the 4850/70/90 has 160 nVidia equivalent shaders, but due to the differences in how they work they give different performance, as obviously a 4890 is faster than a 260, a 4870 is on par with the 260, yet has 56 less 'comparable' shaders.

Im a total n00b to computers, about to build my first computer, so I didnt really know you see. I do now though :D

Tell that to customs and excise :S

Last time I imported a computer component, HMRC charged VAT only.

If they did charge me extra, I certainly would point them to their own rules. As kyle said, I doubt importing businesses would let such mistakes to happen.

I've bought a few large orders of stuff from Japan on a number of occasions, I've never been charged anything extra on top of the monies I paid to the Japanese store.

I know it happens, but sometimes you get lucky and you get charged absolutely nothing.

It would be nice if people stopped ranting about Charlie and get back on topic.... eg random speculation of the new cards!

I was goind to buy a 4890 when i build my new rig... but i might wait a few weeks to see what the new cards pricing and performance are.

If its priced too high for me ill stick with a 4890... either way its going to be a huge jump from my Ati x1650 256mb
