Android crew, are you using waze or Google maps for navigation?

So far, the only downside I can see of Sygic is that it is subscription based - but even so, I can't quite work out why. It suggests that you need to pay in order to use AA, but I used it this morning and as above, it exceeded Google/Waze in useability and worked fine on my car screen.
I am an idiot. I didn't realise that it's basically given me a week's free trial period, so what I'm seeing now is the premium subscription level.

I much prefer Waze over Google Maps, but, Waze has certainly taken me some funky routes in the past....
This is exactly my problem with Waze. We took a trip down to Dorset over the summer and it was determined to take us on the shortest route... through every single-track, pothole laden back road through the middle of butt**** nowhere. We checked the route after we'd arrived and realise we could have just taken the A35 for an additional 15 or so miles. As far as I know there's no way to tell it to 'prioritize main roads, even if there's the tiniest bit of traffic'.

I've gone back to Google Maps for long trips, but stick with Waze for short ones as its alert system is far better when there's potholes/cars on the side of the road/police/cameras etc around.

I bought Sygic years and years ago (2018) so it’s definitely not a newcomer, I think I went with the top level at the time and I don’t pay anything on a regular basis. I still get regular map updates.

I don’t use it though. Dunno why, really.

I use Waze when I use a sat nav, over google maps. I like that people can share info like car or hard shoulder, accident ahead and my favourite only heard it once road kill ahead admittedly it was a massive badger in the road. It downside is sometimes it will send you some bonkers routes.

I tend to run TomTom AmiGO in the background as i think that does give alerts

What I want Waze/Google Maps is an option to not re-route unless I specifically agree to it - as I often use the sat-nav as "audio" only - phone tucked away in middle storage and I pick a route I want to go before I start and I don't want it re-routing me unless I specifically agree to re-route

I don't know why they don't offer this

I find that Maps is better at routing and has better info when roads are closed due to e.g. roadworks. On the other hand Waze is better for alerts about hazards and piggies thanks to its active community.

Does sygic give you an audible warning for speed cameras all the time? That's the only thing I don't like about Waze it'll only announce it if you're over the limit a specific distance from the camera
An update on this - yes, it does warn of speed cameras at all times, even if you are under the limit. But one annoyance...it warns about cameras from quite a distance, and if you don't have a route set, this means you can get quite a few notifications if you're passing through an urban area with cameras on roads ahead of you even if you're not going down them.

Also, it was missing a gantry camera on the M25 the other day. Reported it, hopefully the map will be updated.

You always used to be able to set the alert distance and also customise it for different speed limits.

I used to be a heavy Sygic user and have the lifetime global level which used to be the highest you could get, then they introduced premium+ with the annual subscription model.

I was tempted to get it for Android Auto but in reality I don't use it anymore. Even when I go overseas I have a local SIM now so just use Google Maps.

Work wise I have to have my work phone plugged in so it's Apple Maps because Google Maps looks pap on CarPlay.

You can still set how far you should be warned in advance of a speed limit change, but not a camera, unfortunately. I've decided to stick with it anyway, it will come in handy when abroad.

Waze is much more accurate.

Been several speed changes around here still not showing on Google maps (12 weeks later), but Waze had them after 3 weeks.

I am biased as I edited the maps on Waze to fix things. Waze is more up to date.

Cameras on M25 are easy to spot, so many people brake unnecessarily where there're marking but no actual cameras.
The car headlights will illuminate them at night anyway, and in the daylight you can't miss yellow boxes placed amongst grey metal.

I'm still using native Google Maps in the car as it's just better integrated than Waze with my calendar etc. Waze seems to forget the linkage sometimes and satellite maps is obviously superior than vector map display. Not sure why Waze still has no satellite view..

Waze for me as the routing as good enough my my liking but the hazard/police warnings are the best on any app I’ve ever used due to the community reports.
