Android or Apple?

It's becoming HTML5 so no need to worry, and with the native app for iPhone it plays like a dream.

Don't expect HTML5 to take over from Flash anytime soon, hell it's not even going to actually be a standard for a good few years yet,

Add in that, taking Youtube as an example, HTML5 doesn't look like it will be able to actually replace Flash anyway, mainly due to not allowing ads in the video, bit of a pain for a company that makes all of it's money from advertising :p

Note that the app uses neither HTML5 or Flash, but that's the best you'll get on iOS without jailbreaking for a good while yet.

On the original topic, why not go iPad2 for tablet and android for phone? one plus point of that would be the ability to go for the cheaper non-3G ipad and use tethering to get a net connection, just a thought...

Someone with an iPad must be browsing this thread to test :) I am sure the 3GS won't come up with the HD button because it's not a HD phone. It should on the iPad though!

See my post above!

And for the record, my Desire HD displays it exactly the same as the PC.

I did have a look and there is an Engadget app on the app store though, and the videos on the work a treat. :)

Just to clarify youtube embedded videos work fine 99% of the time, while embedded videos on other sites are more hit and miss...

My point is does the Iphone/Ipad have an app for every flash video website? ;):p

And which is more convenient...:)

Acid, it's a shame the iPad 2 isn't out over here yet, have you tried out the iPad 1 and if so what did you think of it? Also, have you had a chance to use any of the Android tablets? I've tried an Archos one and found it to be pretty horrible to use but then I haven't tried the Xoom and I guess that may be running a different version of Android...

I always like to have a play before spending my cash, sometimes just comparing spec sheets isn't really going to show all the niggles from day to day usage...

The app as it works! :D I actually find the youtube app nicer to use than the web version myself, mainly because the app works better on a smaller screen... There is an app for almost every video site that I'm aware of... Apart from a few of the more 'adult' based sites. ;)

Often if there are sites which have embedded vids and no app, the same vids will be on youtube so it's extremely rare that there is some awesome vid that you cannot view...

At the end of the day all devices have their pros and cons. Some play some content others play others some hd some not hd.

It's up to one person to play with the devices, try them for what their life style is like and what they are into and then get either or, or both or whatever.

Yep, it's why I like it too :)

I agree about the easier to use app interface on a phone but i was referring to iPad/Honeycomb. And MikeHunt79 - the answer to you second point is convenience.

2 sets of apps and media.

I can see your point, but to be devils advocate surely most of your media will be split between the tablet (as films) and phone (music), and again with apps, although they'd be some crossover the tablet would be used for certain apps, phone for others?

With the whole Flash Vs Apps thing, for a phone maybe, as you mention small screen size does make things like web browsing 'less than optimal', however surely one of the main points of a large screen tablet is for web browsing?

Now should web browsing be a case of 'ooh, wonder what that link shows, ooh cool' or 'ooh, wonder what that link shows, oh wait gotta go to the app store, damn no app, next!' :p

My point exactly...tell that to people like Robboftw who just say 'The simple fact that everything about the iPad is better?'

To say everything is better is a little strong, I'd say that almost everything about the iPad is better... ;)

I see your point now. :) I agree sometimes is nice to have the video show on on the webpage... I do quite like the fact that most embedded posted on these forums work fine, so I'm hoping that when HTML5 becomes more widespread things will improve for us lowly minions with inferior iOs devices! :p ;)

I was talking in general terms. Of course there will be little things that are better on the Xoom for example.

All I'm saying is that in the big picture, nothing comes close to the iPad currently. You can disagree all you like, feel free.

I've found all the Android (I very much like Android for the record) tablets thus far quite nasty and they are just rushing more and more to market trying to eat into the iPad sales - they wont.
