Android or Apple?

If I was reading this thread with an iPad, would the embedded youtube vids be displayed? Are they converted or do they not show at all?

They are opened in the youtube native app :)

This is what you get on the iphone.... but same for ipad.

Sites that use embedded video,, but not youtube, will sometimes open in the video player app if they are mp4 / quicktime. You can also download apps to play wmv etc, which you use by downloading the file in safari and then it asks if you if you want to open it then you choose the video player.

It may be best to actually try the device at a shop before deciding which one the OP or anyone will get. There is one thing looking at specs/reviews/videos and there is another thing actually going and trying the devices and getting a feel for the device.

This isn't like a graphics card where performance is all that matters. A lot of hate going around, why don't we just enjoy the devices and be glad that so much good stuff is coming out.

People can't seem to look beyond how they actually use a device such as this. I wouldn't pick up a Xoom and look at a widget (that likely hadn't updated properly anyway as many of them dont), and think "Oh yeah, this is so much better than pressing a button on a menu".

The irony of that statement is that it would seem you are unable to look beyond the realms of 'press an icon, do something, press home, press another icon, do something, press home, and rinse and repeat'..

End of the day, it seems most Android users understand why a lot of people choose Apple products, it just isn't for all of us..

I have an android HTC desire, my gf has the iphone4 so I've played around with both a little bit.

love retina display on the iPhone, but in real life use imo there's no difference.
Widgets on android are nice.
it seems you can get more for free on android + flash, if your willing to spend money apple's app store is far far superior.
rooted phone offers almost unlimited customization, I can have a different phone every week.
I'm not allowed to jailbreak the iPhone, but from what I've looked at customization is still pretty limited.

dual core phones are the future. 3 sided flip phones is the holy Grail

Why would you ever need to look beyond that, all of these devices perform a similar function?

I am an Android (and Apple) user, and I can understand both sides of the discussion.

I really don't think you can see both sides, its not necessarily an ios vs android thing, its obvious customization of workflow is lost on you, that doesn't mean its worthless to others. :)

It's not worth arguing over, I have no issues understanding why ios might be superb for some, and I can see why Android can work really well for others..

I hope poor old Acid isn't getting too confused :D

Here's a list of my bookmarks that I want to access on a portable device. (Irrespective of brand/OS/flash/HTML5 etc)

A sub £200 netbook can just about handle them, my phone makes a good stab at it too. Shouldn't a £400 consumer tablet in 2011 eat them for breakfast with minimal hassle?

I found the iphone works better straight out the box and then that's all you can do with it, where as the android phone took more time to set up but gave me a lot more options to choose from. - Also not having to use itunes is a big bonus :)

Well unles sanything drastically changeds by the end of the month, then I'm going to go for apple, reasoning is.

-It has a lot more apps I actually want
-it's stable and works out the box, I don;t even like customizing my desktop these days.
-Widgets although I can see why people like them, I don't. I have 1 widget on my android and that's a weather one.
- easy and fast os update across the board. Not if or when when manufacture decides.
- a way of getting legal media is very important so itunes wins hands down, seeing as android hasn't got anything yet, although something is in the pipeline.
- Just seen a review of the xoom with flash beta on and it is laggy as hell, ok it is only a beta so may well change. But buying it for that when it doesn;t even have an itunes rival is a bit silly.

I just hope lovefilm get this promised app out shortly and that ios5 is a big overhaul like we think. At the end of the day this early on in android and to a smaller extent apple, You pays your money and takes your choice.

Did you decide to go for the iPhone on Vodafone then? Makes a lot of sense having all your stuff linked via iTunes and whatnot!

Is it just movies and internet you're going to use it for? Cause if you wanted to read a book you can get a good e-ink device for around £60 and it'll be much nicer to read on than any phone or tablet. And if you want a bit of gaming in the mix, well, the Experia Play is launching next month, it's not the fastest phone around by any means but it's got a d-pad, which counts for much.
