Android Satnav app review - iGo MyWay, pretty good y0.

I'm itching toward the Nexus One more and more now, I wanted the desire but I have been reading about how stuff like Swype doesn't work with SenseUI so don't want to risk it!

Would make my life much easier having a big resolution, big screen phone that also doesn't slow down with apps like Sygic 10 !

So is this Sat-nav any better then the co-pilot on the marketplace? I bought that 2 months ago and it seems OK, but is still a bit 'old fashioned' compared to the standalone TOMTOMs I also have.

I've only seen and read CoPilot reviews and videos on Youtube but it looks fine although I feel Sygic/iGo look more robust.

In my opinion, much better than copilot

I can't wait for mine to arrive! Might put sense on it but I've never loved it on my hero

EDIT: Oh and Swype works on Sense fine, well the version I've got does anyway

I've just read on the other thread about the HTC Desire and the fact it's on Vodafone's store now so I could get it asap if I can confirm rooting works - :D

I just tried this and it keeps losing GPS Signal  :(

I only tested it going to work and back but it never lost gps once, only issues I have found is sometimes it would tell me to turn after I had already turned.

MOTONAV is working hell of a lot better :)

Are you using the modded maps app or the official google maps app? I thought Google Maps nav wasn't enabled in the UK yet!

iGo?

I can't post the link as some of these places also link to stuff that breaks forum rules but if you search around it is posted on various mobile orientated forums.

Contract? expires Nov, entitled to free upgrade from Sept.

I don't think Vodafone will allow me to keep my existing tarrif once this contract expires so I will most likely have to get a new contract (keeping my number) as my existing contract has rolled over to various handsets over the years and as the rep said on the phone "it's very old now" lol.

GPS reception should not vary from application to application because its handled by the system.

I think it was my settings, i enabled the internet and GPS in the settings and went for a drive without it loosing signal.

Seems more than good enough for a free satnav :)

I'd like one with good options/features and the map to tell you which lanes to get in etc. Does mobile maps 10 do this? or that co po?

Key question:

I got all the iGo installation files ready to go, but I know have a Desire instead of a G1.

I know the app would have worked with the HVGA resolution of my G1, but does it also support the WVGA resolution of my Desire. It would be handy if someone knew, to save me some unnecessary fiddling and app installations.

No it doesn't mate you need to get Motonav instead all the iGO content works on it tho

Excellent! So what you're saying is that if I can find the Motonav .apk somewhere I can install that and use the iGo maps/poi/3d content?

If so, that could be very cool...!

Edit: Did some digging and found some stuff. Have you got this working Zaf? Wondering if you need to have a rooted device to do the resolution fix required to get this working on a Nexus One or Desire.

Super late night edit: This was too exciting for me, so I did my homework and have now got Motonav working fine on my Desire (epic WIN for me). There is a custom version for the 480x800 res of the Desire/N1 floating about the inter-tubes. The app is designed for a 854x480 screen, so the custom build is not 100% perfect, but 99.9%. I don't know how much I will like the Motonav software itself, but it's ok for now. There will be a 800x480 version of iGo My Way sooner or later I hear.

I ca confirm that Mobile Maps 10 from Sygic is no longer slow, it's only slow when I enable online mode where it beams down traffic/weather etc so turning that off it's back to 2009 speeds - I guess my Magic isn't powerful enough to handle data streaming and navigation at the same time.

WARNING!!!

I've just read on the other thread about the HTC Desire and the fact it's on Vodafone's store now so I could get it asap if I can confirm rooting works - :D

Got my desire from VF last week as an upgrade, they bragged about satnav etc, free for 1st month, then £3/pcm afterwards.
Invoice arrived saying £5/pcm (?) then i find out that VF's sat nav DOES NOT work on the Desire, so be warned.

I yelled at them and they've agreed to compensate me for whatever satnav i buy and install.
So...i'm here to find the best working satnav for the desire so those bungholes at VF can pay for it! :p

Sygic Mobile Maps 10 will no doubt fly on the Desire with online features enabled :)
