Given the growth and diversity of Android should there be a sub forum structured in a similar way to apple. Android has taken off in a huge way over the past twelve months.

Do you think it's logical given the rapid progression of Android!?

could we have a poll please mr mods?

Yes - Androids against repression :-)
No - It ain't broke so don't tinker

Cheers

We've got numerous tablets and handsets on the horizon now, and the competition is hotter than ever. If OcUK want to get in on some of the Android action and start stocking their products there really should be one. If they're not, it'd be a great idea anyway, should keep the Apple and Android users at an arms length too!

Nope, wont happen.

Apple and Android users are already at arms length due to the Apple forum. Its not like the Mobile Phones forum is very active compared to some of the others so I dont see a great deal of point in it. There's what, 5 new threads per day on average?

And yet most posts are Android related with occasional bb/nokia/win7 threads. I think there's room for it, is it indicative of some apple owners/users that they Need to be kept separate and compartmentalised hence a dedicated sub forum? I could understand when Android was in its infancy and represented a much smaller user base than iphones but now it puzzles me.

A LOT of the Android talk is confined to a handful of threads, but they are very active. With a sub-forum, there could be more threads, making it a bit easier for everyone to find the relevant info without trawling through the massive ones. Not sure why there can't be one if there is an Apple section, which covers products OcUK are even less likely to sell.

Spot on

With honeycomb coming out on tablets (and some handsets I believe) it's not just about mobiles any more (before even mentioning the current android tablets), so I'd say it'd probably be as suited to being a dedicated forum next to windows and linux as much as it belongs in mobile phones.

Its not difficult to search a single thread though, and many people make new threads about their issues anyway.

To be honest, I wouldn't be against it by any means, but it will not happen, this has been discussed quite a lot before.

You could maybe better argue a Google sub-forum, as they have Chrome OS coming out in future, so its sort of like Mac+iOS for Apple.

What's the point in having any sub-forums then? I know there's never a lot of change around here, but if it would genuinely improve the forums I see no reason why not. It would probably be more active than the Bikers Cafe.

Yes, but Spie likes motorbikes, that wasn't really user-requested.

As I said, you could build a solid argument for a Google sub (or even main) forum better than an Android one.

I agree now you mention it a google sub would make sense and no doubt given the mobiles/tablets due out in the next few months alone it'd be vibrant and active. This would leave mobiles covering everything bar apple/google which makes a lot of sense all round

Well, with Nokia now going for Windows Phone 7, you could just add a phone section to the Windows software section too, then the Mobile Phone forum would be at the mercy of RIM... :p

I don't think we need a subforum TBH, this forum section already is partially Android anyway now :p

I think the Apple forum was made to stop all the haters spamming across the rest of the forums.

MW

What haters :D
