Cannot recommend the Amazon Fire TV enough. I got a pretty basic box off The Rainforest and sent it back. Plenty of Facebook Groups, forums and others sites say pound for pound it's fantastic performance compared to other boxes.

Side load Kodi (xbmc) or install Plex and you can index all of your local media

Cheers guys

had a quick look at reviews and they look good. Little over what I wanted to spend tho. may just have to stump up that little extra for one.

I've been looking into this over the last week as well after seeing my friends android box in action running kodi, can't believe I never actually realised that a fire tv would run it.

That'll be a purchase for me this week then, cheers gents

Could get a Fire TV Stick for £35. Basically the same thing just without the input ports and a little less power (i think).

And the Fire TV is often for sale for about £62 - so just above your budget if you can wait for it to happen again (seems to happen for about a week every 2 months)

I have a minix x6 neo - fantastic bit of kit, came preloaded with XBMC. Plays everything no problems. I have seen them on sale for 54.99.

One thing I would say though is get a mini keyboard/remote (9.99) for it as the remote is a pia for typing in searches on the on screen keyboard for iplayer!

^^ wireless keyboard is a must for me. Takes me ages on a remote :-/

I'm not in a rush to buy so I might as well hold out for them to go on deal again :-)

been looking into it a little more and i like that you can also play games on them.

so i have 2 problems with it.

1 ive spent a few quid on android games and apps (no big deal really) so i cant use my android games and apps on it.
2 there's only one USB port, i was going to use the wireless keyboard i already have and plug in a USB memory card at the same time.

Will a Bluetooth keyboard be OK from one end of the room to the other?

Yeah it only has 1Gb of memory compared to 2Gb on FireTV box

shouldnt make any difference for video playback. OS isnt as slick on the firestick but cpu is weaker, not a ram issue.

I have an x7 - replaced it with a firestick! it's just better suited for playing media. only real downside is having to sideload gapps etc.

The only draw back of the Fire TV is its locked to Amazons App Store. Games purchased from Google's store won't carry across.

For USB I'd imagine a hub would work fine so plugging in a keyboard and a stick/card reader would be fine too. Also worth pointing out wired Xbox 360 pads work great.

I've got that too.

I use an app on my phone for the remote, it's brilliant (air mouse, keyboard, everything) I think I downloaded it from the MiniX website. (Android only)

Amazon Fire TV is just there own take on the Android tv box.
it uses the same hardware and there OS is based on Android 4.2 jelly bean.
Amazon would just like you to believe its better tech etc, but it really isn't and uses the older Quad Core GPU and 1.7gig CPU
my latest Android box has an 8 core GPU and 2gig Quad Core CPU running 4.4 kitkat, bluetooth

so why pay more for a box full of older tech
if your going to be adding Kodi anyway
