Annihilation (2018) - Trailer

Typical Garland affair but I really enjoyed it. I can now understand why they decided to bin a threatrical release. It's certainly marmite!

Echoing the above, I quite enjoyed it. Good use of music. Reminded me of 'Roadside Picnic' and 'Stalker', two of my favourite books. I can see why the studio got twitchy about it, though.

I watched this last night and as a huge sci-fi fan I honestly didn't think it was to bad. Not many thinks creep me out but.....

That half bear half human when it was breathing or making that noise as if it was the woman screaming or in pain was pure ****** up......

Watched it this evening, I really enjoyed it. I went into it completely blind so I had no idea what to expect either, which I think may have actually helped. It reminded me a lot of Solaris (the newer one) crossed with The Last of Us. I got an Ex Machina vibe from it too which makes sense now I know this was by the same guy. Great soundtrack as well, very atmospheric which again, made me think of Solaris.

About time there was a decent film released straight to Netflix after some of the rubbish we've had the last few months.

Loved it to bits.

Genuinely felt like a defining film in this 'new age Science Fiction' genre we've been cultivating for the past decade.

Smart, engaging and enthrallingly ambiguous in all the ways only really good Sci-Fi can be.

Can totally see why the studio got cold feet though. Audiences these days are thick as pig ****, perhaps they always where. People just aren't willing to engage properly with anything without feeling bored after half an hour.

Edit: Just to clarify, I would never say that anyone who didn't 'understand' the film is dumb. I'm refereeing more to the attitude of general disinterest and complete lack of effort to engage.

Aha you know it man. Gave me the fear to the point where I couldn't get right off to sleep last night xD

Tell me about it, it's very rare things stay in my mind from films but that thing..... yea just something about the noise it was making and the look of it and the human like eyes...... chills even now lol

You pretty much summed up my thoughts with your comment, can't add much else.

Love Garland...Karl Urban was interviewed the other day and said you should consider this his third directorial film as he basically "ghost" directed Dredd but studio wouldn't allow him credit.

Ahhh that makes sense, I remember hearing the same sort of talk just after Ex Machina was released.

I think he's genuinely got a great future as a genre filmmaker ahead of him. I don't think he's quite there yet in terms of having developed a specific style, but he's certainly getting there.

Watched last night, thought it was really good :)

Very much a weird indie vibe about it which I like. Good performances from the actors, good visually and very creepy.

Better than most stuff given theatrical releases these days to be honest. I can see why it went straight to Netflix though as most of the cinema going general public just want to see explosions.

It gets a very solid 7/10 for me.

Good special effects, but the ending was underwhelming for me.

I found the individual characters and much of dialog quite boring and if I'm honest I did skip large potions of it as I don't think it added anything to the movie.

The special effects in some areas were outstanding, however other scenes and also the music at times didn't really fit imo.

Same. Right up my street to be honest. Some really creepy bits in it.

I know that there are two other books in the series. Are they making those too?
