Is this anything like that old game...umm The Patrician? Think it was on PC and Amiga

I loved Patrician too :D it's a bit like it I guess, bit of a mix between Patrician, Machiavelli - the prince and Settlers.

No bad thing, loving the latest one although not convinced it's worth buying if you already have 1701 though.

got my copy through yesterday and enjoying it so far. Only thing that bugs me is that in career mode, it does the same thing as Hospital Tycoon in that no matter where you place your buildings, at the start of the next chapter, the game has decided to move all your buildings round to where it thinks they should go, therefore making it a little pointless. :(

i'm glad it did this as because of my noobiness the missions would start getting reaaly difficult really fast as i progressively wreck my economy. plus i think this only happens for the first few missions (move to new maps pretty soon) so it's basically like a kind of tutorial which is quite helpful imo

Got this recently and also enjoying it so far.

Just wondering though, anyone able to point me in the direction of stone/iron deposits? I place mine but it says it has no access to stone/ore :(.

Quite liked the demo, looks nice, though I think it might be a bit too slow paced for my tastes.

Just to follow up on a few posts here though, what is it with people using the "no multiplayer = no purchase" excuse these days. I see it happening everywhere (Trine springs to mind over the past few days, re it not having online co-op).

Have people lost the ability to enjoy a single player game (especially with a title like this which I imagine will last a hell of a long time)?

I play a lot of single player games. However, I often play games with my brother and one of them happens to be Anno 1701. Which is why we won't be purchasing this, we can't play together. :p

If its anything like 1701 you need to place the smelter (iron ore > raw iron) building in the area of influence of the iron ore mine.

Yeah getting the hang of it now. A few UI features that I find odd but other then that its really enjoyable.

Time to build a beautiful city!

Its just preference. I prefer to play my games with people. I tend to find that a) games last me longer if they have multiplayer ... and b) I enjoy games a lot more if I am playing them with other people rather than alone.

Just my personal preferences, everyone is different. You mention how its too slow for your tastes, well desiring multiplayer is simply another taste..equally as valid as your taste for faster paced games.

if this was mp like every game would be a race to military power (2 warships = all your trade routes gone byebye) and thered be no trade between players as u wouldnt want to help the other guy out! and of course there would be no alliances etc becasue every game would have to be 1v1 cos it takes so long. so i'm not really sure if mp should be missed.

Does anyone know if there is a way to locate all your buildings of a certain type rather than just going around looking for them?

I got the collectors edition of this for £5 less than downloading from Steam :) It comes with an authentic* 15th century compass, a bag of ALMOND SEEDS(!!!), a poster, a dvd and an art book, all packed into a really nice wooden chest. Really nice details, worth getting over the standard version and certainly worth getting over the Steam download.

Loving this game also :D I previously said I would not buy it due to tages, but some of the FAQ's allayed my fears, glad I got it though, 1701 was a great game, 1404 is amazing :D

Still trying to figure out the best way of laying out houses, I generally go for 2X3 blocks in a cross shape from a marketplace which gives me space in the corners for things like churches etc.

Can you eat the seeds?

watch the computer towns - they have it figured out pretty well. my towns generally look a mess, just clumpd around one marketplace with no room for expansion >:(

I find putting them in long 2-house-wide rows to be the best way of doing it as usually you can't connect them to a road if you do anything complicated.

Had never played any of the Anno series . Downloaded the 1404 demo and was very impressed . But they did promise MP and it is partly there just disabled . I bought a couple of cheap copies of 1701 and had some great MP games with my son .
Dam AI can give u a hard time if steal all the islands at the start but great game .

I may buy 1404 but will wait till they sort the copy protection as often swap stuff in and out and i dont want the hassles of tages .

Hopefully they will patch it and bring back the MP section .

Btw anyone tried the add on for 1701 ? worth getting for the map editor ??

Persil
