Annoying issue: PC freezes in game

I only really play TF2 but it's happened with SWTOR as well and Prey.

Amazing, someone else still plays SWTOR ;)

I had a similar problem, turned out to be the graphics card (AMD). Didn't suspect it because it was even happening on the desktop and nothing in the logs to suggest it. I think I fixed it going back to an older driver.

Also, if you use display port, maybe check the cable. I've heard it can cause weird issues.

Clean install of windows potentially, how hot is the drive getting? Sometimes it's just better to clean install... maybe try another drive to install the game on temporarily and see if it's the OS or game causing it also.

Finally, more specifics on the RAM/speed?

Can't remember the make of the RAM but I tried another kit and it was exactly the same. Not sure on speed but it's whatever the default is in the BIOS as I've put everything back to normal.

Actually haven't played it for quite some time now, I get too addicted to it and there's a lack of decent PVE teams that are accepting members.

There aren't so many "hard core" teams around these days, they seem to burn out and disappear. We take a more casual / part time approach and used to have little problem recruiting - but new players seem to be terrible now!

Can't even remember what the raids are now. We were one of the first to do EC HM back in the day, then again one of the first to do it on nightmare. I got fed up of building so many different characters as the devs never listened and made massive class changes which changed the structure of teams every few months. That plus my PC crashing half way through a boss fight used to go down really well. :D

I had a play around last night.

The drive in device manager shows it has a Microsoft driver from 2006. Same as my mates SM961.

If I use the Samsung driver install utility, it tells me the driver is up to date and asks if I want to overwrite it.

The Magician 5.x software says the drive is not supported.

The 4.9.x software supports the drive, but firmware update etc are all greyed out. All I can do is a benchmark which comes in at 2200 MB/s or something.

Played a few rounds of TF2 last night and not a single crash again.
