Annoying PPI calls / Harrassment

I got a lot less calls when I simply told them I'd already claimed all the PPI I was entitled to (which is true). I went from 2-3 calls a week down to about 1 every 2 months, which I can deal with.

On our virgin land line I just sat though the automated message till it got to the take us off the list option a few times and that fixed it (took about 6 or 7 goes to complete it).

Got one on my mobile about a month ago and launched into a tirade about how they had illegally gotten my number as I hadn't consented to it being used in such a way and then shouted at the guy how was I supposed to be old enough to be able to take a loan out in the PPI time scale anyway. No idea why that worked...

I also get numerous PPI calls from 0845 286.... numbers. Try the app 'Blacklist' in the play store, it can block all private numbers and once the 0845 286 numbers come through just add them to your blacklist.

Just don't tick the box or untick the box on comparison websites saying you'd like to receive information from 3rd parties. Doesn't matter if you're registered with the TPS if you do that. If you can't be bothered reading the small prints of them just put in a spam email address and a fake or old mobile number that doesn't work and you won't get any calls, simples.

It's really not that "simples". Mobile phone numbers are data mined and openly sold in bulk all over the world, it helps ticking that 3rd party box but it's not the magic answer.

You can try to mess them around on the phone, and sometimes your marked as a nuisance. I did this to an Indian call centre, and the calls stopped!

Ended up doing this my self, picked up the phone told them I had to do something real quick and would be back. Left the phone sat by the radio with them on the other end. They soon get bored and give up and end up removing you from their database/put on a nuisance list. Cold calls have gone down to less than 1 a month now.

This might sound silly but I'm sure that I read online that you have to ask them to "purge your information from the database".

I can't find the link where I read that but I seem to remember some people having some success when getting calls from various companies.

However, if your details have indeed been sold on to 3rd parties I'm not sure what you can do :(

I love pressing 5 to speak to someone and then talking about any old crap ie asking for help finding my keys, if they've seen my baseball, what time is it, can you check on google for bus times anything other than ppi lol. They still haven't canned me off the list so i've saved some sound boards for the next call.

Say this " I don't understand how you got this information... I am currently under a Data Protection order I have been for a few months. I would suggest you remove me from your database to avoid potential legal action" kkthxbye

Well this morning got another phone call from them after applying the windows phone workaround for blocking numbers, followed the advice and asked to have my information purged. Told me it wasn't the case as I had consented to be contacted but they couldn't tell me who or what company. They did mention HSBC but never banked or used any services with them.

As for the play store, using a Windows Phone which I mentioned earlier. There doesn't seem to be a blocking feature. Spoken to T-Mobile again who said they would try blocking all numbers in the ranges. Already TPS registered.
