Has anyone done this?

My neighbour is a violent scumbag and he often is driving around drunk(Normally at night and probably still next day). I often hear him and his missus loudly drunk/drugged and arguing, shortly after i will notice that they are driving off somewhere or coming back from somewhere(Probably to buy drink, drugs or fags etc) and they were still obviously drunk/drugged. I have concerns that they will cause an accident and injure someone(I even worry when my mum nips round that they could cause an accident being drunk or even driving recklessly, but at the same time i am also concerned that he will damage my property or attempt to assault me if he thinks i have "Grassed him up!" which i cant be doing with... I have in the past done a online crimestoppers report but nothing has come of it.

If i call 101 and give them the information will they actually do anything about it like put a tag on their car licence plate that will alert the police to someone possibly driving while drunk/drugged or will i have to call 999 when i see them driving off while possibly drunk for them to do anything about it (Which would narrow it down to a small number of people who could know they are drunk and going out driving and expose who is it).

Any advice would be appreciated.

I’m not sure they would class it as an emergency. Report through crimestoppers. They might not do anything about it though.

Next time they do it and leave the house and you ring 999 immediately:

"999 what's your emergency"
"Hi I've just seen a car leave address XYZ whilst out walking my dog and they nearly hit me/some parked cars and drove aggressively swerving everywhere".
*hang up

Do this every time they do it until a copper arrives down the road/on their driveway before they get home?

I think if you just hang up or refuse to give your name, then they may well take it as a hoax.

They will just put out a call for any officer who sees the car. That doesn't mean anyone will or anything will happen.

I dont know about anywhere else but my local Police station has a letterbox with a cage on the other side of it, i assume so people can hand in wallets or other lost property they find in public 24/7.

Anyone can put a note in there with a tip off.

But the best way of course is to phone them when said scumbag is in the act.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Yes, he certainly has priors. Last year he smashed someone he was drinking with over the head with a bottle and ruptured his artery. The bloke staggered to a neighbours house and if they hadnt helped he would have been dead. There were 6 police cars in the close, the detective came round next day and asked if i had heard/saw anything or if i had caught anything on CCTV, i told them they are always like this, often loud drunken arguing, banging about etc, the cctv didnt show anything as i have big firs to block them out. They both ended up getting taken away but were back after the weekend and as far as i am aware nothing has happened to either of them. Heard from another neighbour (The ones that helped the bloke) that he said the bloke who almost died wont do anything about it.

Often i only see them coming back after hearing them loudly arguing while being drunk. Without sitting with my laptop open watching the CCTV i dont know when they come and go but will keep an eye out for them.

There is the big police station on my way to and from work but not sure if i can go in and speak to anyone tho.

Oh. An actual serious post about a letterbox on OCUK. I never thought I'd see the day. :)

Many years ago now my Ex wife witnessed an assault. 2 drunk scumbags were staggering down the road, one threw his bottle of vodka at a car driving (and it hit the car) the bloke got out , the 2 beat the guy to a pulp (hospital job) infront of the guys 4 year old kid in the car.

my wife explained to the police but said she was worried about fallout as it then transpired these 2 were from very rough families... and we were promised if she gave evidence our address and names would be kept anonymous.

we went to the court and were stared down by a large group of the accused families. when in court the 1st question was to state name and address for the court!.

after it was all done (the 2 did get found guilty) we then had a lady come around and told us to phone a number if we got threatened, or assaulted or had any damage to our property.... when we told her we had been told it would be anonymous she said this would never have been the case and we should not have been promised that........ but that so many people refuse to be a witness that sometimes witnesses get the wrong idea about what will and wont be given out in the court!.

the whole thing was a mess however luckily nothing ever came of it to us at least.

If i were in OPs position i would dial 999 if i saw them in the act however IF they want to be anonymous definitely hang up and do not give details as i would not trust the police to keep it anonymous... and if they know who you are they can compel you to come forward.

Phone 999 the next time it happens, you won't be required to provide a statement or anything further so there's no reason for him to find out who reported it.

Anything else is a bit of a waste of time to be honest, they need to be caught driving so an anonymous tip-off or Crimestoppers report isn't going to help very much.
