Another accident

just for information, why is it bad to use your own insurer to deal with it? Is that not their job, why you have insurance?

Surely you claim off her insurers since she was the cause of the accident, if you claim off your own it would affect your NCB wouldn't it?

i will not be claiming off mine, as my insurer would claim it off the other parties insurer surely?
And that is why my insurer passed my case off to albany car hire to deal with it as a non-fault accident???

Just need confirmation on whether i should cancel my claim through my insurer and then contact a claims management company to deal with my claim. what claims management company should I use?

What?

You have insurance so that they pay out if you cause an accident.

Insurance companies want to keep costs down, so if you are the injured party and say to them "give me a courtesy car while you sort out fixing mine" then they'll be very happy, as it keeps their costs, and, therefore, our premiums, down.

You could also organise your own courtesy car and repairs and then bill the other company for it, which is the most hassle for you. You could also contact Helphire or other such company, but all they do is what their insurers would do, only they charge a nice big fee for it, increasing costs.

if your insurance are doing a job like Helphire would (i.e. arranging), only for no fee then fine, but you certainly don't want to be claiming off your own insurance for a non-fault accident.

But as the accident is a non fault my insurer will surely claim off the 3rd parties insurer so in essense not affecting my insurance right?. I had to notify my insurer of the accident as I had to give my insurance details to the 3rd party.

Cat D write off
Buy back for cheap write off prices
Sell for as much as you can (In most cases will be considerably more than what the buy back was)
PROFIT!!??

Until your insurer claims the money of the third parties insurers you will lose some NCB (probably 2 years), if you have any.

ffs what is it with people screaming help hire/3rd party companies for simple things like this :)

Go through her insurer, they will do everything.

I was involved in accident and we phone up our insurer (Bell) gave them Incident number then Albany have taken control of the case been given a courtesy car and they are claiming all the money of the party at fault. So far have been charged nothing and no premiums have gone up.

Is that a panel filter in your picture? either that or a small radiator, like an oil cooler. Damage doesn't look so bad that a panelfilter/oil cooler would 'pop' out lol

That is off the ladies car and not mine.
The car of my car hit her front passenger side wheel.. to which the track/steering rod has come off. So she could not steer/turn that wheel. That little radiator/cooler was in front of wheel, it came off and was wedged inbetween her tyre and bumber. Had to remove it using my feet so we could move the car as it was blocking both lanes.

If it is written off, then I would buy that back. Depends how attached to your car you are but I would attack the bonnet with a lump hammer, fit a new light, rip off the bit of trailing metalwork and carry on driving :D Obviously thats if nothing major is bent when you have a look.

Parts wise I was quoted £40 for a wing and £45 (ish IIRC) for parts for my Focus. All pattern parts not original Ford. No idea on a bonnet price. If you don't mind getting your hands dirty then it is doable.

thats what i was thinking of doing if it is written off.
I would need a new wing, front bumper, new headlight, indicator light. The bonnet maybe salvageable. It also depends on the buy back price on the written off car :D

Why bother when it's her fault and she's paying :s

Albany Assistance are a claims management company that Admiral put their customers on to for non-fault accidents - if they're supplying the hire car they will also be instructed to pursue the claim. This is funded by your legal protection so you won't have to sign a credit agreement like some places will make you do to supply a hire car.

This looks fairly clear cut so it shouldn't be an issue, but my experience with Albany is that if the TP doesn't roll over and admit liability after a couple of letters it will be down to you to chase them and make your own case. They are adminstrators rather than legal people. I did eventually get my money after Albany passed the case to their solicitors.

At what stage do you offer/ask to buy the written off car back off the insurer, once it has been declared as being a write off or after you agree/settle on the value of the car prior to the accident?

i got my replacement/courtesy car today, it is a 58 plate, Ford Focus Zetec 1.8 Diesel. I prefer my old focus as it felt more sporty and direct than this newer focus.

Too late now but with Albany Hire never accept the first car. I had my car written off when it was parked stationary when my neighbour decided to take out four cars and they offered me a Picasso. My car was an Estate so I told them I didn't want a fun bus. I was then offered VW's equivalent which I also declined. He then commented he had nothing in stock for me when he realised I wasn't going to change my mind a 58 plate Jaguar X-Type Estate materialised.

I am not that fussed, they delivered it to my house, I also needed a car this morning to get to work. Plus the fact that is it ford focus and my car was also a ford focus, I can't really complain. An added bonus with it being diesel is that I will save a bit when I have to drive upto Whitley Bay on Christmas Eve in fuel costs

What was your car that was written off by the way?

Octavia Estate. Hence why I continually asked for an Estate or 'normal' car. I was going to Jersey on the ferry with the car so having something higher / longer costs more.

To be honest the car swop sounds fine - it's more a thing to be aware of if they tried, for example, to give you a Matiz or such like.
