Another accident

If it gets written off (which it shouldn't, the damage looks really minor) then DEFINITELY buy it back and repair it.

Besides, I thought a car had to be really badly damaged for it to be written off? For example if the engine gets pushed into the passenger section or if the wheel gets bent half off, etc. Yours looks fine.

i got my replacement/courtesy car today, it is a 58 plate, Ford Focus Zetec 1.8 Diesel. I prefer my old focus as it felt more sporty and direct than this newer focus.

Yeah I drive a 1.6 Mk1 and it really is a lovely car to drive.

Nope, it's all about the repair costs. New panels, new lights, fitting, spraying, etc, all mount up. Once it gets to be a particular %age of the value of the car, it's deemed not worth repairing.

From when i worked in insurance this % is normally around the 60% mark. There is also the different Categories of write-off to consider too :)

When i was getting my car repaired the guy said it was around 80%. Most definitely depends on the company though.

My Car is 2001 Ford Focus 1.6 Ghia Manual with 64K miles on it..................... Am i likely to get a replacement car that is to the same spec/level as my car or will i get a small underpowered one?

You should get a car of similar spec I suppose...small and underpowered :P

update: suprise suprise.. the third are no longer accepting liability and are now claiming injuries. She said I was speeding and while she was doing a 3 point turn I came and hit her vehicle. Which won't hold much weight as the police despite not getting involved i.e. giving a crime reference number or breathalysing me.. did turn up as they were blocked by her car. If their was any evidence of speed or reckless driving they surely would have booked me... so this claim which at the start seemed like a open and shut case is going to be a long and drawn out case... grrrrrrrrrr

it wont be long and drawn out

the insurance companies will push to have this settled as 50/50 unless either of you have independent witness' ?

and judging by rilot's experience of disputing a 50/50 settlement of the claim, you could spend 6 months completely wasting your time. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :/

no one ever stops and is willing to be a independent witness grrrr. I asked the guy that was behind me when the accident happened, he said no.. there was no need for witness for this accident then just drove around and drove off grrrrrrrrrr

reminds of me when my dad was T-Boned at a junction

our lights were clearly on green, people behind us "saw nothing" so despite the lights were clearly on green, because we had nobody to back us up, it went 50/50

I had a similar scenario. had somebody cross over the white line and hit me on my side of the road on a blind bend. Because nobody saw us it went 50/50

I had pictures of my car against the kerb, skid marks on the road etc.. but they said they could have been taken any time because we only scraped, i stopped but she carried on so the photos of my car didnt have hers in shot :/

i have sent the pics i took to my insurers.. they clearly show that she hit the front side corner of my car.. will see what my insurers do. From the damage report when my car was taken in (i hope the company that assessed my car took pictures too!!) that will show that she drove into my path

they clearly show that she hit the front side corner of my car..

this does nothing to disprove her theory that you rammed into her, while speeding and she was doing nothing other than making a safe legal manoeuvre

that's your problem.

I wish they'd have a global satellite surveillance system or something for things like this. I know nothing of the practical feasibility of it (i.e. data storage etc.), but it would solve so many problems if every part of the UK was continually monitored by cameras.

You can get cameras which constantly record things in car, they have enough memory for about 30mins and then they overwrite themselves, if you have an accident it then stops recording so you can see what happened.

I've always thought these are quite a good idea.
