Another boring tyre thread

Is that the spiel they gave you about them down at quickfit? No way I would be buying them with my money!

No. More like the spiel from Jon why owns tyre reviews, goes to several press releases and generally is the oracle of tyres.

Plus it's fact Goodyear do own Fulda

Except they don't seem to make the 3 in my size and the 2 is out of budget.

From my experience the RainSport2 is about equal to the CS2 in the wet (read; very good), but is a lot more 'squidgy' in its feel than the Continental. Personally I'd say the SC2s are worth the extra as you're driving something sporty and mention feel as one of the criteria.
In general though, the RainSport2s are perfectly acceptable and they do have pretty reasonable feel overall, its just for the initial turn-in, you can certainly feel it hunkering down.

Fulda is part or owned by Goodyear. The new Sport Control suspiciously looks like Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric and early test show it to perform like one as well.

Would make business sense, Goodyear now have the F1 V2 to pimp as their best tyre which replaces previous one. As such hand the design/mould of the old one down to sister owned company Fulda to create a great performing budget performance tyre. Let's remember the F1 asymmetric on the whole was a great tyre, now you can buy it cheaper and the only difference is the badge. ;)

I would want irrefutable proof before I made purchasing decisions based on this theory!

I often find it amusing that people go 'Oh, but budget brand X is owned by Premium brand Y!'

I wonder if they use the same logic to purchase a Dacia Logan instead of a Nissan GT-R? After all, Dacia are owned by Renault-Nissan!

He doesn't test tyres for a living - he runs an informative and useful site in his spare time. His efforts are very appreciated and it's an excellent site which has seen him invited to product launches but his opinion is just that - opinion and not proof.

Looking at the two photos of the Assymetric and the SportControl they don't have the same tread pattern - there are subtle differences?

It will come down to more testing, does the Fulda offer the performance levels the F1 did? If it does or is very close then how much do they cost compared to F1's if still available and how much more does the F1 v2 cost.
Early reviews look promising though best test will be owners taking off f1's and putting these on. But they are another option to explore.

If I was after tyres on a budget and enjoy sporty driving I'd go for the V12's as they have done well in a lot of reviews and people who have them seem impressed. They are certainly better than Falken 452's which were a favourite amongst many people buying performance tyres on a budget.

However I ask if you enjoy sporty driving, pushing the boundaries of your cars performance then why do people try to cut corners on tyres. The tyres are the most important aspect on your car, they can save you and others life's, or certainly help prevent an accident and improve your cars handling/grip abilities. So just save the bit extra and buy the best which does tend to mean more money but generally worth it. :)

Toyo T1-Rs

:D

Being serious though, have you considered dropping to 15" wheels and sticking with PE2s? I've had no issue finding them in this size.

I wouldn't put Falken 452's and performance tyres in the same sentence...

You can't go wrong with anything that has Goodyear, Michellin or Dunlop written on the side. Dunlop has impressed me more recently of them all. They came on my ST when I bought it, and they were excellent in the dry, wet and also snow ;)

Neither would I, but Falken as a manufacturer do. :)
