A pair of HD6850 1GB cards in Crossfire is similar to a pair of HD5850 1GB cards and only requires a pair of PCI-E power connectors too meaning lower power consumption.

Tessalation is a tad better AFAIK. As a single card setup the HD5850 1GB is usually faster when compared to the HD6850 1GB.

Once you overclock 5850s to 900MHz on core, they perform just as well as 5870s - that is better than 6870s.

Probably around 6970 performance- not bad for £170!

An HD5850 1GB is nearly twice the speed of an HD4850 when both are at stock clockspeeds.

What PSU do you have BTW and what CPU??

If you want to use DX10 or DX11 you will need to have Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Gibbo, maybe I'm missing something in the spec, but what is 'extreme' about these cards? (Other than the cooler). Can you change the voltage with them to get to 1000Mhz as with 'reference' 5850's ?

Providing your psu is up to the task then I wouldn't worry about it. You can slap on loads of AA and still get great frame rates.

Essentially they are butchered 5870's which didn't quite make the grade I believe, so should you get them in XFire for approx £170 that is quite the deal I'm sure they could do eyefinity in all honesty.

I went from an overclocked HD4830 512MB to an HD5850 1GB recently and I can run DiRT 2 and Bioshock 2 at very high settings at 1680X1050.

I'm severely tempted to get another 5850 but I think I'll need to upgrade my psu as well, as I don't think my VX550 will handle two cards and my I7.
