Another Ebay thread....yeah hate me!

Well the guy was apparently well spoken, polite, had positive feedback, so why not sell it? The OP was the timewaster.

Being well spoken, polite & having a few positives isn't a hard thing to gain if your making £300 profit, anyone can send a message and anyone can buy 99p items from friends to fake feedback.

So what your saying is, even if they are well spoken, polite and have positive feedback they cannot be trusted because they are new eBay buyers? That's not really true is it.

The majority of new eBay buyers are genuine people looking to purchase an item. You get the odd idiot here and there, but by and large they're legit customers. You can't have a below 5 positive feedback no sale policy. It's not good for business.

eBay has never been good for business, everyone and anyone can be a scammer, I've been scammed 3 times with the 'item never turned up' & 'box was empty when arrived', the OP didn't want to take the risk and by right he shouldn't have to when anyone can screw you over. I'm not stating that anyone with those characteristics are scammers but, in the circumstance of losing £300 i'd be more than worried to go ahead.

The seller isn't protected for anything, they're no ways to protect yourself, taking pictures don't work anymore, you cannot prove someone is a scammer which is just more work for yourself to get your money back minus any fee's.

Well its all done and dusted, buyer agreed to cancel and not long after their account promptly disappeared, make of that what you will.

I can appreciate people saying i was the one wasting time, i wasnt happy about cancelling something i agreed to sell but my gut feeling wouldnt leave me alone about it hence me creating the thread for advice. At the end of the day i'd rather be a timewaster and still have my phone/money than get ripped off :)

It does seem odd that his account disappeared. Surely if he was after an Iphone there are others on eBay he could bid on?

My overall feeling is you had a lucky escape. I have heard of scams involving phones where they take the screen out and they put a damaged one back in your phone. I would assume the IMEI number is still the same and they can claim it was damaged on delivery. You lose a useable phone or have the hassle of trying to claim through Royal Mail and they walk away laughing when they have a new screen and their money back via a PayPal dispute.

Not sure how true all of that is, just some random stuff I have heard.

Cheers
