Hi,
A OpenReach engineer JUST connected my line up, and despite cracking line stats, i awful speeds already...
4Mb down 600k up.
11.0 & 7.1 Attenuation
15.8 & 20.4 Noise.

Any ideas?
I thought the lines usually 'train down'?

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4095 kbps 605 kbps
Line Attenuation 11.0db 7.1db
Noise Margin 15.9db 20.4db

Thats all it gives me.

You might want to check your wiring and connect directly to the master socket to eliminate noise.
Brand new flat. One socket, one thing on the socket, a microfilter, and on that, my router. lol.
Cant get cleaner than that! :p

Yes, for the first 72hrs.
After that DLM will kick in and your speed will adjust every morning at 2am.

With an attenuation of 10dB, you should get the full 20Mb. Actually 24Mb.
20Mb even with the noise that high?

The target for Sky LLU is 7dB for Noise margin, so anything higher is causing your line to be artificially slower. Presuming you are with Sky give them a call and they'll whack you up to your maximum.
Is there much point in calling them? Shall i just leave it be for the next 3 days and see what speed i have then? Because if im getting 15Mb+...?
Or shall i phone them now? Get it out the way?

Higher noise margin is better! Usually as the speed increases, the noise margin decreases until you hit 7dB. Any lower than 7 and you'll run in to stability issues, any higher and you're being "held back" so to speak.

If you're getting 15Mb with a high margin then it means you have scope to go faster.

If you have a dongle filter, chuck that and get a filtered faceplate from ADSL nation. It'll make the setup that much cleaner and pleasing to the eye.
Thats good then. :D
Wanted 10+ :p

Suppose i should wait then. :)

Your power readings look crap, they should be around 19 and 12 respectively, not minus figures. Do you have a different modem you could try?
Several, but is there any point considering how its still in the 'training' period?
Would be better to see what it normalises at surely?

Well its one day past, 2am has gone...same speed. :(

For the sake of the 5 minutes or however long it takes to configure a new modem, I'd certainly give it a try, especially with the bizarre power readings you're displaying.
Surely with the rest of the stats being as they are, the bizzare power reading is likely to be a GUI error on my router?

Its improved. :D

Will it go up further as its training does anyone think?

Maybe. You have a lot of scope to change your upstream, so keep an eye on that.

I can't see downstream moving from there :)
Well im hoping it goes up. Its quick how it is, but a speed bump wouldnt be complained about. :-p
Its already 3-4x faster than at my old place. lol.

Whats strange, is that at 4meg, it said the 'max' was 15meg, and now its at 16, it now says the max is 25meg...hmm.

Still at 16meg, but this morning ive just noticed the upstream jump to 1.1meg from 0.9meg:
Code:
adslctl: ADSL driver and PHY status
Status: ShowtimeRetrain Reason:	8000
Channel: FAST, Upstream rate = 1110 Kbps, Downstream rate = 16381 Kbps

Rate (Kbps):	16381 1110

Another increase this morning :-D
Code:
adslctl: ADSL driver and PHY status
Status: ShowtimeRetrain Reason:	8000
Channel: FAST, Upstream rate = 1142 Kbps, Downstream rate = 19006 Kbps
Link Power State: L0

Pwr(dBm):	18.1 12.3
Max(Kbps):	25608 1135
Rate (Kbps):	19006 1142
Thats pretty much the 20Meg that sky offers.
Wonder if it'll allow a sync above that if the line supports it, which it appears to do stat wise?

Dont worry about the max rate your modem says, it is basing it usually using all your spare SNRM.

You need to go by your current SNRM. Skys system is set to 7db, which yours sitting at. I would look at your internal wiring, you should hit the full service on your line so something else is causing it to sync a bit low or you could just have poor copper but im going with bad internal wiring.

After your testing period, try connecting in the test socket on the bt faceplate.
Brand new building.
Brand new lines to a brand new cab.
Brand new wires to the main switch board in the building.
Plugged directly into main socket, only thing connected is the router.
If the sky standard is 7dB, wouldn't that 0.4 account for the 'missing' 1Meg?
I'll see what its like at the end of the training period, either way, VERY happy with 19meg. :p

Its gone up again. Only a little this time though.
Down has gone from 19006 to 19989, and up from 1142 to 1157.
So as good as makes no difference, 20meg/1.1meg.

I'm assuming if its only gone up by a tiny amount I'm now looking at the limits of what my line is capable of?
