Another New Car Thread ....

Good work :)

Are you going to have to wait long to get your suspension?

Cheers should be here Wed / Thursday depending on funds coming into my account. Its annoying

Nice work Sam. Never really took you to be one to get stuck in, especially as I'm sure you said something about getting Renault to do everything on the Clio...glad to see you are doing it yourself. Once sorted you need to take me for a ride...not a spin. :p

The clio was under warranty therefor i didnt need to. I dont really have a choice with this to be honest. I could get a garage to do it but would have to buy far cheaper parts....

Good work :) I told you the screws behind the surround would be a pain!

The most important thing is you've got a dry(ish) barn to do it in.
Tell me about it mate, Trying to get U clamps on a sunday is no easy job either haha ...

You don't hang about Sam, good work!

Cheers mate nope ;) Will have the coilovers on one night this week

Awesome stuff, good to see some progress :D

Ta :)

They Arrived this morning :D Sachs Coilovers ....

Is that building youre working in safe? :p

Ive had coilovers on for a while now, well worthwhile, mind you mine were 300 second hand. I dread to think how much they were!

Safe enough ! They retail betwen £750 and £800 and i managed to get a bit of a deal. Nitrons were my first choice but £1200 was a bit silly and i need to buy other things ...

Just to point out that the spring and damper arrangement is already "coilover" on the VX. The theoretical benefit of the sachs units is you can adjust the valving and also the ride height.

Looking good mate...makes the other parts of the running gear look like they need replacing. :p

Much else to do to it, or that going to pretty much be the end of it for a little while?

So saturday came and new discs and pads were to be fitted, i was really dissapointed with how the car braked so wanted to get it all updated nice and quickly. This is quite a cheap thing to do and Mintex Discs /Mintex 1144 pads cost me under £200.

This is how the car is as we speak, its booked into Back On Track in guildford on thursday to have a Geo done which should hopefully make the car a lot less understeer happy and make the best of the Sachs. I spoke to them today and they reccomend the Exige type setup ....

Them Mintex 1144 pads any good? I wanted Ferodo DS2500 all around on mine and i struggled to get some for the rear, so ive got a set of Mintex to fit... Hoping they are better than the stock Honda ones.

Every time I see this thread at the top I expect a shot of the car wrapped round a tree :p

Have you considered carpeting/flocking the dash?

Looks nice mate. You should have got in there with the Hammerite though - would tidy those rusted parts up no end. :)

Yea i agree but i allways feel hammerite looks like "alf a job" i want to take it all apart when i get the money, replace the bushes and then shotblast the rusty bits. Should look a lot better and last too

I had DS2500 on my old clio and to be honest didnt notice an improvment over the standard pads which was strange because everyone ranted and raved about them. These 1144s on the other hand also got great reviews but boy oh boy do they stop :D Have not had braking like this since i had my Racing puma. Perhaps its because the standard stuff is so shocking but in all fairness im very very impressed... Those mintex discs are standard too

Aha not yet

I want to get the doorcards done in carbon fibre and then the dash and seats done in black alcantara .... Will match the black theme outside

Cheers, ill see how i get on with the Ferodo on the front and Mintex on the back, in the moring ill be fitting a set of Tar-ox G88 disks all around along with the new pads, so im hoping i get a marked improvement over the standard brakes, if not ill probably sell the car and get something differant. ;)
