Is it me or are plane crashes getting more and more regular?

Plane crashes in Kyrgyz capital

A passenger plane has crashed shortly after take-off from Kyrgyzstan's capital, Bishkek, killing a large number of those on board.

The head of Kyrgyzstan's civil aviation authority said that out of about 90 passengers and crew, only about 20 people have survived.

it's that time of the year, i think there is a time of the year where there's a spurt of crashes, it happened last year and the year before.

don't tell her !

I fly a few times a month.. I know you have a greater chance of death when things do go wrong, but come on... it's hardly often is it ?

Eastern Europe.. not that surprising really. They don't have strict authorities like we do and since (i suppose) it's a poor country their airlines will be using old soviet era airlines + very old airliners - like the 737-1/2.

If you look at the accident list over the last few years, very few major accidents happen in well developed countries whereas they're a common occurrence in places like Russia, Africa, Indonesia, South America.. etc - they're the places to avoid flying in ;)

Its because it was ex-soviet...so many people auto think its eastern european.

It anoys me also when people don't know of countries...such as people thinking Borat came from a made up country.....

I thought they were one of the better safety wise air crafts?
.

Makes no difference if it's serviced by idiots on the cheap or not at all. I have plenty of friends who have been out to these countries and seen people get paid £1000 a day to stamp off paperwork on aircraft they are never allowed to get near.

As I said in the other plane crash thread if you look at the counties the 737 has crashed it's all tinpot countries with tinpot regulations operating aircraft where the maintenance is poo. Or america where the maintenance engineer requirements are memorising a few multi choice papers where you already know which questions you will be asked.
