I dont like not being in control I dont know if im scared of flying, better figure it out seeing as im on a flight to canada on the 3rd, doesnt help we have had all this plane news recently

Aircraft crashes are a lot more common than most people think. Just we only hear about the ones that involve a large number of people usually.

It all depends on the airframe and how much you want to throw at it to keep it airworthy. The manufacturer has a lot of input into the life of the airframe.

Take our own C130's for instance. Hammered to ****. Every 4 or so years they are stripped down to a tube and checked for known problem areas.

What happens with lots of civilian operators is they hammer them to hell and then after 5-10 years flog them to a tinpot airline or third world country. They wont pay the money for heavy maintenance checks and its cheaper to get shot. Those aged airframes then end up getting poor maintenance and crash in south america or some ex soviet crapizstan.
