In April 2006 the mr2 started leaking coolant, and after taking it to a few specialists I replaced coolant hoses and pipes around the area it was leaking, but it still didnt solve it. In the back of my mind i thought it was the water pump, but i didnt look any further due to personal issues and the mr2 was declared sorn until june 2007.

At this point I went to another specialist to have the cambelt and water pump changed at the same time, i dropped the car off, and got a phonecall later in the dat with gutting news for me, the engine block was cracked :( I was fuming and gutted, i had just spent about £2000 in the previous month to get her on the road, tax, mot, insurance, 4 x potenza s02's and an alternator, my bank was litrally dry

So i continued to use the car, just for the odd trip to work, i guess just because i had missed driving it so much, then in october 07, enough was enough and the engine couldnt cope any longer lol , so i declared it sorn again

I managed to get another engine complete with 90k on it, and i was just going to clean it up, put a new cambelt on and have done with it

replacement engine, ready to be dumped in the garage for a clean

but then i thought, well i may aswell do it right, so decided to start from scratch and rebuild the engine with new toyota or uprated parts and have something different

so i disconnected everything and dropped the engine from the mr2

and then while saving for new parts I have been cleaning some of the the old ones up and painted them for a good finish

the new engine is well on the way to be built, all parts have been removed, im just cleaning the block ready for a hone, and ill be having fun with piston rings and bearings

all parts have been bought, except for uprated cams and pulleys, i think im going for 264 piper cams, but im going to leave it a month just to get more advice....

I forgot to mention, the engine is going on a wizards of n0s kit, which will give it a bit of punch.

Ill get some pics of the block, and putting the pistons, crank etc in there. Everyhting is going to plan so far, and it should be back on the road for late april/may

Blimey, looking good! I must express my dismay at the number (2?) of MR2 releated threads of late, it is bringing them back into my mind far too often!

Very nice, reminds me of my adventures with the 2. Unusual to crack a block on a Rev2 though?

One thing I would say, painting alloy parts with silver paint makes them look ok for a while, but when the silver paint starts flaking off they look a hundred times more scabby than the original grubby alloy.

Make sure you check/replace the the heater pipes that sit above the fuel tank and exit into the engine bay, it's very common for these to crack around the mounting brackets and lose coolant. You have to drop the fuel tank, but then you can pop a Walbro fuel pump in at the same time ;)

Dogbreath, yeah it is unusual to crack a block on a rev2, although having spoke with a few people, they seem to crack in the same place if they do crack... and thats under the waterpump/thermostat housing on the corner of the block...

the paint should be ok, the silver is actually brake caliper paint so good for high temps, ive used it before and not had a problem, as long as surface cleaner/pre paint is used before spraying

jamief - i did used to put the odd post on mr2oc years ago, but stopped posting there

I was an admin on IMOC though, now thats another story :P

hate - i knew i forgot something ;) i just pulled a rev3 turbo rear clip out a few weeks back from a mates car ..... and sold it :p

Agh. I want your advans!! (would they it an st185?)

What you planning for the engine?

the engine is fully rebuilt, bearings, rings, gaskets etc,,, its on the lightened fly, 6 paddle clutch, 4-1 manifold, apexi air intake, and a good dose of n0s

the head has been ported and polished, i still need to buy some piper 264 cams and vernier pulleys, but that will be in march....

What is your power estimate with and without giggle gas?

without i would want around 200

with, im not sure what jets i want to get upto, possibly UPTO 150 jets..

im just wanting a fun car that handles well (which it does already with the mods) and a bit of poke... we shall have to see
