so this odious little gash just about ruins someone's life w/ a drug/rape claim, has him arrested including apparently an "intimate examination [article's vague, later suggests that was for her] and she's fines a whopping £200. what the absolute **** is British law coming to?
and yet again, why is the guy not suing her in return for defamation of character, wrongful accusation and everything else he can? this make a 'ing mockery of rape and suggests making fake claims is going to have nothing more than a petty laughable file as a consequence if you happen to be caught.

It's pretty pathetic that she almost ruined this poor guys life and only got a £200 fine but I completely agree with Wolfie138 in that the boyfriend should press charges against this stupid little girl.

Meh. Just seem like a work around it nothing else. We've seen more and more of these cases where girls have accused their partners/ex partners of rape just because something bad's happened in their relationships.

Slapping the accusers with a couple hundred quid fine, suspend sentence and a restraining order doesn't seem to be enough.

“...and was given a four-month suspended sentence...” and other stuff that won’t fit in the headline.

Wow, Like that will learn her! :(

Penalty for "Bearing false Witness" should be comparable to the sentence that would be handed down if the crime had actually been committed.

In this case, that would be 5 years, and none of this suspended nonsense either...

Usually I'd agree that repercussions regarding false accusations are pretty lenient but I think this is a decent example of a sensible judge + sentence.

so (unless she breaks the law again in the near future) she's basically got away with just a £200 fine as per the OP

it is a pretty poor sentence given the amount of trouble she caused the person she accused, the resources the police likely wasted given the level of priority they give to rape cases etc.. frankly a false rape conviction ought to be a custodial sentence that gets served (if given) not an imaginary sentence. (Better still, since it was a non violent offence, they could have her doing a few hundred hours of community service.)

Rhey decided to charge her with wasting the courts time instead of perverting the course of justice.

Partly because of her age and partly because she didn't go to the police her friend did

Agreed. People might want her locked up for 6 months (or 5 years, which is frankly hilarious) but the no-contact order, suspended sentence the RAR plus a criminal record will hopefully have enough impact on her.

It's not just having an impact on her life, sentencing needs to be sufficient to deter the plethora of similar women who see false cries of rape as a means of revenge or attention seeking. The judgement is a joke and sends no real deterrent to others, in fact it probably encourages them to make specious accusations, such is its leniency.

I think this is the crucial point.

She lied to her mate to make her ex boyfriend seem like a horrible *******, her mate told the police and she kinda went along with the lie until it all unravelled a few days later.

She's 18 as well. She might be an adult but she's still a silly immature teenager.

Putting her in prison for 5 years, which is the CPS sentencing guideline for a single rape offence with no aggravating factors, would be ridiculous

Had she stuck to her story and the young Man ended up with a rape conviction, would he have been treated leniently on account of his age??

And while it was the friend who first alerted the Police she could very easily have put an end to it, without facing any possible legal consequences, by coming clean and simply admitting that she was yanking her friends chain.

Is there any act of serious criminality you do not feel obliged to defend and recommend light or no sentencing for? Many honest people are not worried if prison rehabilitates or not, they just want to see criminals who destroy lives taken out of society and no longer a threat to their person, property or future freedom to live a quiet law abiding life.

I see the World in shades of Grey, not black and white.

It would be a different story if this girl put this man through a criminal trial, but it never got to that stage.

The prisons system here would have millions of people incarcerated for very little if you had your way...like America where people are in for prison for life for stealing food in the 60's

£200 fine, 15 days of "rehab activity" and a 2 year restraining order on her ex - What an absolutely awful excuse of a penalty for such a disgusting crime.

There definitely needs to be harsher penalties for people who falsely accuse rape - The accused was subjected to over five hours in custody and an "intimate test". At 18 years, it probably scared him so much he won't touch another female ever again.

As people have already posted - He should press charges on her and get some more meaningful compensation for the harm she has caused him.
