I grew up in this country since birth, so I've been quite lucky to be able to have pretty much a normal education, I learned two languages from a very early age.

Don't know about you guys, but even when I was a kid (22 now) there was always a handful of kids who didn't speak any/much english and had learning support.

I live in the North East, so maybe you could argue the ethnic population is smaller than areas in the South.

I can't remember this ever being a problem for teachers, the ethnic student or any other student.

I think this is probably an isolated case, blown majorly out of proportion by the media, I mean chav + media coverage = famous chav with proud parents.

Well thats just the thing, it isnt black and white. A lot of my mates are muslim, and I can assure you that they are just as ****** off with extremist muslims as anyone else - perhaps even more so, since it is them that have to deal with the assumption that they are the same. And at the end of the day they're in the same boat as we are - namely that, for those extremists, moderate muslims actually *arent* muslims. SO they have no more hope of changing the mind of extremists than you or I.

Have you asked them why they adopt some parts of the koran and which parts they don't adopt? Why do they cherry pick there beliefs and at the same time critise those who accept fully the word of the koran? What makes them muslim in their eyes and the extremists not?
You see I look a christians who beleive in god but only cherry pick their beliefs, they are not true christians by definition of the bible, which they say they believe (but only parts of it, do you see the logical violation of labelling yourself as one thing and do another?)

She may be 'languageist', but she didn't object to their race. She objected to not being able to understand the language they were speaking when the point of the lesson was to "discuss". How, precisely, is she supposed to do that with a non-English speaking group? The fact that they were Asian is not the point. It's that they weren't speaking English. If they had been, and she'd objected to sitting with them because they were Asian, I'd agree with you. But, assuming the story is accurate as to facts, that isn't what happened.

Isn't the whole point of going to school, is to learn, or at the very least being given the oppurtunity to?

If we went by this pupil's standards then her own teachers would refuse to teach her as she didn't already know science/french/maths before attending the class itself.

Maybe some of those students are very proficient in science but presently lack English language skills to convey that.

I think before that they are allowed to go to our schools.. they should AT LEAST be able to speak English... or at the very least be going to a school, and classes that are in their Language.. I do believe that the lass was very unfairly treated, because to be honest, if I was her, I would have done the exact same thing.

On paper, discrimination based on genetic race - absolutely.

One thing we all know is that, in practise, racism's definition is somewhat broader and goes on to include a lot of people who don't share basic genetic or social features of the aformentioned racist. So I'd say its somewhat bastardised definiton, as used on these forums, is acceptable.

She doesn't really have a website as such does she? It is just some sort of page on a social networking site.
