Ranjit Singh crowned himself as the ruler of Punjab and willed the Koh-i-noor to Jagannath Temple in Orissa while on his deathbed in 1839. But there was dispute about this last-minute testament, and in any case it was not executed. On March 29, 1849, the British flag was hoisted on the citadel of Lahore and the Punjab was formally proclaimed to be part of the British Empire in India. One of the terms of the Treaty of Lahore, the legal agreement formalising this occupation, was as follows:

The gem called the Koh-I-Noor which was taken from Shah Shuja-ul-Mulk by Maharajah Ranjit Singh shall be surrendered by the Maharajah of Lahore to the Queen of England. The Governor-General in charge for the ratification of this treaty was Lord Dalhousie. More than anyone, Dalhousie was responsible for the British acquiring the Koh-i-Noor, in which he continued to show great interest for the rest of his life. Dalhousie's work in India was sometimes controversial, and his acquisition of the diamond, amongst many other things, was criticised by some contemporary British commentator.

The queen. Shame we did not leave India alone and allow the hordes of petty princes to continue to wage wars that benefitted not the people but only the princes.
Without British intervention India would be even less of a world power than it is now, if it wasn't for Indias utter lack of unity and penchant for infighting they could have been quite something. Best blame others for your failings though.

sikhism was invented roughly 400-500 years ago, at this time there was afghanistan - indian border (pakistan was invented by the british for all the indians forcefully converted to islam). what happened at this time was india had only 1 religion hinduism, afghanistan had 1 religion islam, the afghanistan emperor summoned his armies to invade india, after invading india, he told everyone you must convert to islam or you will be killed, people converted others didnt, so then again the emeperor said if anyone doesnt convert to islam kill their children, after seeing their children killed some people converted others didnt, then the emeperor said kill their mothers and wives, some converted and others died with their wives and mothers. their was an uprising, sikhism was invented to kill all the muslims and get them out of india, the sikhs grew strong and defeated the muslims, but this all took place over a long time im talking decades not a 6 month war, by this time india was left with 3 religions from its original one ( hindu's, sikh's and muslims). thats why hindu's and sikhs are best friends but they both hate muslims, it is written in the quran that their are 2 types of people the believer and the non believer, you must make the non believer a believer or kill them, this idea is re-inforced in the quran many times, it is a religion of war not peace. they opress women and non believers, when the british came along into india the muslim converts made a deal with the british because they were hated in india for converting that they wanted their own land, so they made some of the british special lords and britain gave them their own land (pakistan)

yeh the sikhs killed muslims that had been killing their sons, daughters and wives and forcing them to convert to islam yes? islam is a cult - you have to pray 5 times a day - you have to wear a veil - you have to kill all non believers or make them into a believer - islam is the biggest plague on this planet - you are allowed to have 5 wives - you can divorce a wife with 1 word but cshe cannot do the same to you - it is traditional to marry your first cousin
