Chaps , I've been away from gaming for a few years and would like to get back into it again especially after seeing the Battlefront demo.

I built my rig a few years ago and suspect the only thing I'll need to upgrade is the GPU but as I'm so out of touch i'm not sure where to start,so over to you experts if you don't mind pls.

Thanks for looking

Current Spec:
COOLERMASTER GX 750W PSU
ASUS P8P67 PRO MOTHERBOARD
G.SKILL RIPJAWS-X 12GB PC3-12800 1600MHz
INTEL CORE I5 2500K 6MB - Overclocked 4.6GHZ

MSI GEFORCE GTX 460 1024MB - Current GPU

my monitor res is 1680 x 1050 and that's something else i'm also looking at and as for budget I guess up to £300 or I may as well get a PS4

Thanks guys

I've always been an Nvidia fan so am looking at 970's at the mo , can't believe how many there are to choose from!

I guess the higher the clock speeds the better the card will perform.

If you want a 970 then look at the cheapest one with the best warrenty. Most will overclock to roughly the same level.

I always suggest to choose in this order

Pick the ones you like the look of

Pick the cheapest from those

Take the one with the best warrenty

Hope thats some help!

If you just want to game, I would look to getting a 390 but if you want to record your gameplay with ease, run a higher resolution on your current monitor and let the drivers set the best graphical options for you, I would go for a GTX 970.

A good article here with some good info and well worth a read.

I wouldn't take that article seriously at all looking at the 390 Nitro results. I suppose we are to believe that the gtx970 is way faster when all other reviews paint a different picture. There is far to many inconsistency's in that article even between same brand cards.

For instance here is the Nitro v a gtx970Sc and a 290x. It is a lot closer than what that article would have you believe with the 390 being faster here.

GTX 980 Ti and be done with it.

I had the GTX 970 but felt I needed something faster for 1440p and 4K DSR.

Fair enough in your situation, but the op might want to think twice before getting a 980Ti for 1680 x 1050 ;)

390 would be great, but I would even be tempted to get a used 290 for a decent price if possible.

That article I linked was tested with the latest drivers yesterday, so I put a bit of stock into it. Newer drivers bring some nice gains etc (to both AMD and Nvidia) and it is always good to see some testing on the latest drivers of both :)

Latest drivers could change things a little but nothing like what that article tries to portray. There have been no massive leaps on either side in the last 3 weeks so i am still calling bull on there results even if we take the gtx970 out of the equation check out the 290x compared to the 390 Nitro.
