Hi all,

I've been given the go ahead by my bank manager "wife" to upgrade my current system, my budget is around £700-£750 I'm looking for a MB,CPU,PSU,Ram (4Gigs Upwards),GPU (With a possible crossfire/SLI in the future) and a case. No need for a monitor, keyboard, mouse and os.Any help would be appreciated.

P.S Looking forward for comments from my fellow country men Odin and Alex53 :).. Oh nearly forgot I'll be using it for casual online gaming mainly Startrek Online which I would like to play with all settings high

Regards

Is this system ok?

This quote is from a shop in Spain (around 30 min from my home) the total is 854.00 Euros I can claim back the VAT which amounts to 717.36 Euros and with the exchange rate around 1.10 in Gib that £631.31, comments please.

Regards

Don't skimp on a psu, you wouldn't want to trust a 30euro part with that lot.

And that 4890 sounds a bit expensive at 200euros.

the ocuk machine at £680 is better value than that lot for £631 as its a better case, power supply and memory and a newer dx11 gfx card.
the i7 920 is overkill for casual online gaming to be honest and you would need a triple channel memory kit with it and not a dual channel kit as in your spec.

Anyway both the builds I listed have quad cores processors and have Crossfire capable motherboards too.

Both the Phenom II X4 955BE and Core i5 750 can be overclocked between 3.7GHZ and 4GHZ and would be better than a Core i3 dual core at that speed. The Titan Fenrir is a better cooler than the AK967 and the Antec TruePower New Modular 650W is a far better PSU than the Corsair CX400W.

yes both of cat the fifth's suggested builds would be better than the parts you listed from that shop also.
i'm suggesting the pre built system as it may be easier and cheaper to ship than everything separately :)
and it's came down a tenner since yesterday :)

I greatly appreciate all your recommendations but what's stopping me from buying overseas is that what if a part comes defective I really don't want the hassle of sending it back .

I have suggested two different builds and you can check the cost of these components in Gibraltar and Spain. You may have to change a few parts but you can always ask for some more advice on this forum.

Hence you avoid the hassle of having to import the parts.

If you want the Phenom II build that Cat spec'd you built, you will have to ring the shop up. I recommend building it yourself though, it's good fun. If you run into any trouble I'm sure people here will be glad to help :)

Ok I've decide on this system.

The memory CAT mentions is out of stock (Patriot Sector 5 Viper II 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-12800 1600MHz Dual Channel + 3D Mark Vantage [PVV34G1600LLKB]) so I've gone for the one on the basket is it ok?

omg @ the delivery cost

thats why i suggested the pre built system as it should come in one box i think instead of about 3 for all the separate parts.

i am sure ocuk will build a machine to your exact spec if you ask them too.

The Core i5 750 based build I suggested would be better even with £100 delivery!!

£130 for 4GB of 1333MHZ DDR3 and PSUs of questionable quality - No way José!!
