ANOTHER 'which S939 cpu?' thread

See I wouldn't bother at that price. Why not get the Asrock board and a C2D for the same money?

Yer if I wasn't in a shuttle, which would take £300ish to get a C2D equivalent of, I would have gone down the C2D route faster than a ferret up a trouser leg!

Good grief!

Placebo effect tbh. You only think Vista needs more memory because it uses more to be efficient, where as in XP the same would be an indication of a inefficient system.

you don't need 3gb in vista at all. Unless your using a lot of memory hungry image/video editing apps you are not gonna use up the 2gb

Or want pre-fetching to work for you and have your apps open nice and quickly!

It is turning out to be quite expensive picking up X2s for S939 atm, worked out at £150 for me including p&p, for a 4400, which in my eyes is bearable but only just. Once my god damn exams are over I should be able to focus some time on clocking it and hopefully getting my moneys worth :D

It runs damn cool in my shuttle though only 35-40 under load and sub 30 idle!

I paid £150 for my Opty 170 but I sold my x2 3800 for £70 so I didn't think that was too bad an upgrade. It'll do 3.05GHz once I sort my cooling out :D

problem is, 939 3800+ from here at near as makes no difference 100GBP, the AM2 version is like 40 less, 939 X2s have all vanished and the ones that haven't have became dodgy priced, look at the clearence section, 4200+ for like 200GBP or something

Yeh but the prices quoted there are up the creek big time! Look, appartently the x2 4200 retail is £176.24 but the OEM is £199.74 and the x2 3800 is £152.74 when it's actually only £99.86

i noticed, seems daft, why put something in clearance then charge more for it?!

Worth asking - could be a mistake - I've seen some comedy in there in the past (Pata HDD's for >£1000 :D ) My favourite had to be when the B-Grade come up with "was £20, now £35" - great - now we have to pay extra for 2nd hand goods :p
