Any other OcUK'ers a fan?

I remember being totally transfixed when I was a kid by his "Moon and Half Dome" shot taken at Yosemite. Still glorious stuff to this day.

God yes, it's still some of the best photos ever taken in my opinion. I love a lot of his Yosemite stuff, there's a particular shot of the snake river too which I've always meant to get a print of.

Really amazing stuff, shows what real talent can achieve in an age before £5k DSLRs...

I love black and white photography and he is a master! Are you planning on trying to re create some with the Mamiya?
You read my mind!

Yes I really want to. If I take just one pic with the RB67 that's a quarter as good as the one above I'll die a very happy man :)

Surprisingly I'm not a big fan. I realise that he is a very important person in the history of photography, developed the zone system, and was a great artist, but most of his work does very little for me personally.

Large format camera still trump DSLRs for image quality. For landscapes you really can't beat a field camera. :)

Studied him at A-Level, and as above, not a big fan. I can see the talent, but it's just not my style both personally and what I find aesthetically pleasing.

Not just about image quality though, his photo's are technically pretty good without recourse to all today's fancy features. Either way, he made amazing images with a camera far simpler than what most people are using today, it should be an inspiration as to what you can achieve.

Oh I know it's not just about IQ. I was just saying that if I was to produce the best quality landscape images possible, I would still reach for a camera similar to what Ansel Adams used back in the day.

Not really a fan, i understand how important he is as a pioneer but in terms of his body of work, its not my cup of tea.

Ansel Adams is one of my favourite photographers! i've modelled much of my work on his style, particularly in my development of my photos.

Good Taste Mr. Proudfoot!

I'd never heard of him until now either - there really is some lovely stuff there. He's very much about the minimalistic captures and landscapes. Very nice indeed.

I was an instant fan of Ansel Adams since the early turn of the century. I can't say I have grown up following his work seeing as I have only followed photography since around 2002.

I have his book and many articles written by him.
A fantastic visionary and his work has paved the way for landscape photographers past and present.

I actually saw a lot of his pictures when I was in Yosemite, and I saw a lot of the places and people trying to replicate them.

They are nice pictures but I personally don't think he is amazing as people think.

It's similar to the number of times I've heard some say a film (The Exorcist/Apocalypse Now etc) are amazing films, but when you see them you just think 'meh'

I've never heard of him but after a quick google will have to look more into him some great photos out there :)
