Antec P180 Owners Thread

Anyone have the following setup - Asus A8n-SLi Premium with Tagan530W Modular/Hiper580W Modular in the P180? I've heard the cables are too short or something? If so, which cables exactly? :)

I just built one today using the 530W Tagan modular, and the cables were long enough. I installed it upsidedown for maximum length. The modular nature makes it easier to route the cables.

The Molex ones for the dvd-r at the top of the case were a bit of a stretch but it did make it. The 24Pin atx and 4pin P4 style had ample for my DFI NF4, but if the connections were in the very top left on your board it may not quite fit, depending on whats in the way.

Few quick tips i found: i didn't install the upper drive cage - i use that space for cabling. I used the external 3.5" for a cardreader/floppy combo.

I took out the 38mm 12" fan and used it as my heatsink fan. All fans are on medium but as i have basically installed nothing yet, i don't know load temps. Bios temps were fine, but the nbridge temps were a bit high - mainly due to having a 7800GT on top of it i expect !

I haven't installed the card cooler either - i think it causes more problems than it solves.

Oh and be careful with the panels, as mentioned on the first post.

I've just got one from oc, been waiting on new stock arriving for a few weeks and its also on special offer.

I have that board and Hyper PS....I found that I still needed an extension on the 4pin cable but having the modular supply made life so much easier than trying to fit in an ordinary PS.-looks a lot tidier also!

should you get a bag of screws with this case?

currently can only find the filter thing and drive cage attachments in the box provided.

You do yes, but it's very neaty stored in a screw box on the case itself. Take the second side panel off (the first being the main one that gives you access to the motherboard) and look for a box attached to a drive cage.

Good idea if you ask me, if a little worrying when you first get the case! ;) :)

You use the ones with the huge heads, to hold onto the silcon grommets.

The upper drive cage uses pull out trays - you screw the drive into the cage using the holes underneath the drive, not the standard side mounting.

yes ive got that box out, yet there is no screws in it.

EDIT- Just found the black box, whoever thought that was a good design decision needs a clip round the ears. :p

Well I for one thought it was a good idea, saves storing the screws elsewhere and losing them.

As for all the problems you've been having, may I suggest you read a review or two which will show you how to do things! To be honest you should have done so before you purchased the case, you'd know then where to find out this information.

Got my pc set up in the P180.

Took a number of attempts to get some sort of 'tidy' cabling together and even then it's not the best. I did find a wee cubby hole on the opposite side of the floppy drive bay that the case led connectors, etc. can hide away in - so that keeps that cable out of the way!

As per most people, I shifted the lower chamber fan and placed it at the back and moved that one to the front drive bay.

I couldn't fit any of the 120mm fans into the lower chamber, so I've plastic-tied a 92mm fan there and it's secure and providing an ok movement of air.

I got the new zalman cooler but the vga duct was touching it, so that was removed and, like another person here, I've place a zalman fan bracket, secured by the vga duct points, and got a 120mm sanyo denki fan there. So that's a pretty healthy breeze going on around the heatsink and my 7800gtx card.

Even with all those fans it's still reasonably quiet (got the largest tri-speed fan on full too). It's the zalman that's the loudest though!

What do you mean you couldn't fit any of the 120mm fans in the lower chamber? There was one already there and it works fine with my power supply.

Sorry, because of the cable spaghetti from the PSU.

The PCI-E from my Tagan isn't too flexible and all the other molex points are used up, so I couldn't use a smaller 2-molex > pci-e adapter.

I'm none too fussed - the 92mm is up to the job.

Ah right, well what I did is just keep the bunch of cables like it is when it comes out of the power supply casing, nice and tight. Large heavy duty cable ties are good for this, the kind you get in packaging from power supplies, keyboards and so on.

I might have to try that but not just now... the Tagan easycon connectors are a bit fiddly when they're all jammed together in that lower chamber and I'm usually swearing at some point with them!

I've just finished putting everything in the new p180, its not as quiet as i had hoped and I'm not impressed with the finish of the case. The front door needs sorted as it is flimsy and I would have liked a silver finish on the top of the case. overall i like the case it has some good features.

I'm not sure yet but I think I may have thrown my spare screws out with the box doh!

Well I partly agree with you on the finish, it doesn't meet the levels of Lian Li and coolermaster but then again I never expected it to. I actually prefer the black top, it offsets the silver nicely.

As for the noise, this would be down to the parts you've used not the case itself. You can hardly expect the case to silence stock HSF's, noisy northbrige fans and so on. I've found the case itself very good for quiet cooling, the panels, rubber feet, separate power supply chamber and so on help quite a bit and every little helps. Those things along with the use of 120mm fans all round make it the best case I've ever seen for a silent system. I'm even considering getting a second to replace my old Lian Li Pc61, as I can't see me getting the same level of silence I have with the P180.

As for the spare screws, did you not put them back in the little case on the drive cage?

I replaced the northbridge fan with a Zalman ZM-NB47J Northbridge Cooler and the only fan other than those supplied with the case is the cpu fan which is a Zalman CNPS7000B-CU Ultra-Quiet CPU Cooler not sure if thats the exact fan on the cpu but it does look identical. Maybe its time to replace the cpu fan as I have had it now for over year.

Which fan would you recommend?
