We appear to have an infestation of ants at several places in the house

Have tried those "traps" with stuff in they allegedly pick up, take back to the nest and kill the colony - ******* useless

Having doors and windows open in the warm weather isn't helping

Have cleaned the house, looked for obvious entry points (some of which im sealing up tomorrow) but loads swarming about around the patio outside

I'm looking for advice / suggestions as to peoples success with ridding the little blighters (and duly await, kill em with fire, my dad is a Queen ant killer etc.) ........... :D

I think it's called Nippon , looks like a gel , put it down and they take it back to the nest and it kills them , just be careful with pets and children they don't touch it

Cheers - it looks like a similar thing to what we have tried (but it was some cheapo stuff the Mrs got from the garden centre)

We have 2 young kids and a cat so need to be careful but I may give it a whirl

Thanks

E: looks like they do a spray and is fine for kids and pets once dry :)

Another vote for nippon gel. Amazing stuff just do t expect results in 24 hours. It does work though, for sure.

Can't comment on the powder or spray but there must be a way to administer the gel and keep it out of the way of kids and pets.

They gobbled the gel up on my patio which was crawling with them. Took a few days and they were gone.

Also find out where they're coming in, in my kitchen they come in via a tiny chink in a corner of the windowframe that means it isn't airtight. Every year I have to spray around the windowframe with bug gun to stop 'em trespassing. Lasts for months, twice a year on average is enough.

Lol Hiijinx :p

I bought some of this today

Was looking for the Nippon but no luck in B&Q or Waitrose (Ocado sell it online) so grabbed that instead

My Mrs was so sick yesterday she "attacked" a line of them going through the kitchen with bleach cleaner which left it looking like some kind of ant disaster film with little limp bodies floating in pools of bleach

Ironically not may about today but ive given the known routes and congregation points as well as the odd few milling about outside a good dowsing - so will have to wait and see

Thanks for all the suggestions (well nearly all :p ;) ) :D

Always read the nippon stuf was good, we got the hockey puck lookin things full of "food" they pull into the colony.

Completely gone within a few days, same situation at the Gran's house too.

Deffo reccomend the proper Nippon traps think I bought them in Asda

Another vote for Nippon gel. If you've got a few microscope slides hanging around the house, put a drop or two on them and place in strategic spots. Otherwise, cut up a big cream or yogurt type plastic pot into strips and do the same.

I'll have to try this gel now :p

We had an issue with ants, they was coming out of a hole on the outside wall and also was getting access inside from a hole under the window sill. This resulted in our kitchen have them running around but at the time the only thought was to buy some spray.

It worked and they are still present a little outside so after some gel, hopefully we don't have anymore.

I used an ant spray from poundland last year (aerosol) and it worked a treat. Just sprayed it everywhere they were and in any holes or cracks. A few repeat sprays each day til the can was empty and I haven't seen them ba k.

I've got the Nippon powder (must try the gel next) and it kills them in a minute after they walk over it. So the gel should be pretty good.

Well haven't seen a single one in the house since spraying the little bleeders the other day :)

Will give the Nipon a whirl if they do make a repeat appearance

The spray I used here wiped out the ants completely and quickly. Made by Bayer so God knows what chemicals it contained.

So, today they returned, with a winged larger variety

We have seen maybe 1 or 2 since the last spraying and all was good then there was 10-20 in the kitchen accompanied by larger bodied version, with wings !

Sprayed them then went back outside to spray any i could see when I saw them congregating around a small hole in a vertical mortar joint just under the DPM

They were swiftly soaked with he spray we have swiftly followed by my ordering two tubes of Nippon gel

Lets hope it gets here before they get any bigger :eek::eek::eek:
