Ants, help me make them die !

They are evolving. Its the start of a xenomorphic super race. Prepare for imminent Zerg rush.

I believe the only thing that worked for my parents was nippon gel, or at least very similar stuff. They used to suffer from them every year in their old house.

Yep, Nippon works. I'm going back a really long time here, to another century, when I was still a yoof and living at my parents and the kitchen got invaded by ants.

Took a while, but Nippon killed them in the end, good stuff.

So as I got in tonight I was greeted by a rather anxious Mrs TB who was in a bit of a state

Apparently there had been a few ants on the worktop, shes sprayed them and cleared them up. She then went out to pick up the kids and came back to find "loads" which she had promptly sprayed

thinking there would be 20 or so I was quite shocked to find

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Hurry up Nippon, they're taking over !

Ewwwwww. You got to find where they are getting in. It happened to us and i looked everywhere. In the end i found it was a rubbish bag i had which i had put garden rubbish in and left in the utility room!

 Wow, never knew ant problems could be that bad. Can you see anywhere they might be getting inside? Take the plinths off the kitchen cabinets and there is probably missing skirting board under the cabinets. You could foam this up as a temp fix.

If it was me i'd take a few bricks out where they are getting into the wall and destroy the nest. I wouldn't want it bridging the cavity, plus it would be better to attack them there instead of spraying ant killing chemicals on your work surfaces.

I think there are one or two points in some vertical joints on the external leaf just under the DPC

They also appear to be coming in where the cooker hood extracts through the external wall

I have sealed the latter up before but I've just looked and there is a ~1-2mm gap they could be using

The Nippon should be here tomorrow and with a few strategic blobs (I've also found a few holes in the border and patio they seem to be using frequently) it should kill off the colony

Failing that I'm moving and nuking the house :D

+1 for the Nippon, but also worth getting some cheap ant powder - use it to liberally coat outside walls as it will penetrate into nooks and crannys and will disperse ants fairly rapidly if you see where they are coming in.

Went to war with mine the other day, spray vinegar on them and they're dead, then boiling water. Have only seen a few since.

I've killed literally 100s with any spray, bleach and just good old squashing and after a few days they return

Nippon seems the way forwards and should get right back to the nest / colony

Failing that fire may be the only answer .......

If they're getting in, between the brick pointing, I saw some stuff in Wickes you could buy to fit a mastic gun in one of them cartridges. The person in front of me swore by it but I can't recall what brand it was.

I'm going to seal the joint gaps up and the extract duct from the hob hood

Been in Edinburgh for the day today and hoping he Nippon has been delivered so I can start poisoning the little ********

Got home and the ant slaying chemicals have arrived

Given a few key points a good glob of it ......

Thanks for suggesting that Nipon. I've ordered myself some tonight and really hope it arrives tomorrow.

The ants we killed last year are now back and trying to overrun our kitchen. Just spent ages trying to get rid of them but we don't have any spray yet, so having to just use water and mop them up. Hopefully this Nipon will work well.

With this being a council property, do they have any obligation to help us out with the ant issue? From what we can gather, they are inside the walls, and this is something we obviously wouldn't to be able to access ourselves. The last time we called them, they told us they couldn't do anything about it.

Flying ant day yesterday at our house, little ****'s were all over the washing.

Yup, just talking about it at my work. We literally had thousands and thousands pouring out of our back garden last night - fortunately all flying west, away from our house. Never seen anything like it.

My boss lives on a peninsular overlooking the sea and he said there was a huge black cloud of them heading west... wouldn't want to be the house where they ended up at! Think you'd need a flamethrower!

We've got loads around the outside of the conservatory, under the patio (I need to cement a few loose flagstones) and in the garden.

Have tried various powders and a trap from the garden centre but the little blighters keep coming back so will give Nippon a go. Fingers crossed...
