Ants, help me make them die !

Judging by {SAS}TB's silence, I think they might have taken over his household.

Not far off ................

We had no more ants after the Nippon applications then on Saturday within the space of minutes 1 turned to 10 turned to probably 200-300 falling onto the worktop - slayed with ant spray and looked outside

the little ******* were coming in through the extract vent

More Nippon, ant powder and spray and sealed the extract duct entry point in the kitchen, fine.

Then, last night, about 100-150 started pouring through the weep vents in the dining room window - cue screaming freaked out wife, more powder, more Nippon and more spray

The lawn out the back was literally crawling with hundreds of the winged ones (which I believe are newly hatched ants about to fly off to find a mate - jesus)

Anyway the local birds had a field day and we have also found another 2 or 3 potential nests - all have been heavily powdered

I also called environmental services at the local council (who got rid of a wasps nest for us a few years ago and did a great job) - Their pest control chap is coming Friday afternoon - hopefully with a large ant cannon.

£60 for as many treatments (i.e. suspected nests) as needed and then 3 month "warranty" where they come back free of charge to address any further infestations. For£60 I thought that was a bargain !

Further updates after the ant slayers visit ......................

I wonder if they will have one of those cameras you can look into the cavity with? I'd want to remove any nests that could be bridging the cavity as they could lead to damp problems down the line. If you can find out the location of them it probably wouldn't cost much to get it removed.

Used that Nippon gel last year as they had overrun the kitchen and this year we have only seen 1 ant which I'm hoping was brought in on clothing.

Amazing stuff, really did work but took a few weeks.

We finally got Nipon put down. Tried putting some around the holes on the outside walls, inside some holes underneath the sink cupboard wheres the pipe leads outside and a strip on some cardboard on the floor near there in the kitchen.

Are you guys just leaving them to run around freely? We still tried getting rid of all those who dared to show themselves.

The issue I have with nipon or other similar solutions is you have to repeat the process regular, what happens with rain and wind does nipon dissolve?

I have gone and ordered a bunch of seeds (lemon grass, mint and bay leaves) off flebay since I was looking at something more long term, no idea if it will work but was planning on growing a few in plant pots and just leaving them around window sills and steps and around outside the house to see if it stops insects from coming close. I guess if the plants work I should see less to no spiders, wasp, ants and cats !

So there were a few more around the gardens today, especially the little winged *******:

Obviously they are immune to ant powder

Anyway "antman" turned up today (I am somewhat disappointed he didnt have a Ghostbusteresque boiler suit on) with his spray and chemicals :

Soaked any he saw and is coming back Monday with some "baited traps and stations" to dot about the borders which "should see the little ******* off" - lets see ..........

How much did he cost? If our method doesn't work, we are thinking of possibly getting somebody out to have a look. I've refilled all holes I've seen then coming out of with the Nipon liquid, and stuck something in the hole so they can't escape.

They best start taking this liquid back to the nest!

It was the local council and cost £60 but that includes any return visits in the next three months - bargain TBH :)

£60 is a bargain tbh, he looks like just some bloke who walked out from the pub ;)

These council guys are usually just blokes living in the area tbh

I have tried hot water, bleech, ant power, insect repellent spray all over our patio and concrete flooring outside the house and none of it works really.

I tried my home made insect repellent of tea tree oil, peppermint oil and lavender oil mixed with water and sprayed all over the patio and it worked bit more better can see less ants and spiders however wind, rain reduces its effect meaning you would have to spray it 2-3 days like or after it rains so bit pointless.

I have bought seeds (peppermint, bay and rue seeds) which are natural insect repellents but they will take weeks to grow and test, am hoping they work as a long term solution !

I think ill try nippon if a decent deal on the net? Still wish it worked on spiders since they are my main issue !
