Any architects or architecture students?

"I like where you have placed that balcony- it is the perfect location to throw your self off from after looking at your hideous building."

"well, to be honest it's a bit poo but that's ok, you'll learn!"

"Rendering and adding context to your elevation is like putting glitter on a piece of ****."

Those quotes cracked me up,I would have no idea how to react if they said that to me!

The one I heard that made me laugh was "Am I blind?Because I can't see a building in this pinup"

(star out the sweary mate)

Everyone indeed remembers the Hoe Centre!! I miss it hugely- was a great home for a few years!

No David "Sheep-lecture" Willey left at the end of last year. Bob Brown heads Diploma now & Guru heads up Stage III.

Again it depends on your practice- ive worked for small and large practices & it depends on the ethos and processes they follow - whether they specifically employ technicians/engineers, bring in outside help or undertake it themselves.

Great results can be achieved either way- I love working in a multiskill design team.

Missing the Hoe Centre ? lol never ! I've had a few naps in that place during lectures, especially in the white room. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I don't know Bob Brown.....Michael Wiggington was the head when I left. David was the deputy. I tutor I hated most is that Greek lady, no constructive criticism ever, she just put you down.

Haha I know the one!! In fact she was present in my last crit! Apart from that it sounds like there has been a complete staff overhaul. Programme Managers from Oxford and Head of School from Bath have moved to the Plymouth school recently.

The whitebox indeed had great snoozability but did you not partake in the glories of hoe-golf & hoe-cricket?

Sounds like they are moving on up !

I really hate that Greek woman, she's not even an Architect I don't think, she's a structural Engineer first. I don't mind crit, and I don't need sugar coating. Saying your work is bad is one thing, but she doesn't even tell you why. Hate that woman !

As for Hoe Golf and Cricket ? No.......they might have started that after I left. Where do you play that? There wasn't that much room.

P.s. is the new computer suit have the same keycode combination ? :p aka elvis's rip year?

This is probably going to sound like a silly question to some, but I'm going to ask it anyway because I'm curious. How artistic do you have to be to become an architect? Also, what is the pay like?

Planning and Architect industry and extremely short staffed so they pay and good jobs are out there. I graduated just over year ago and ill be on 27k in April

Man I never been in a bad crit or experienced one, both in my work and any other students whose group I was in, think the staff in Sheffield are softies :/. First year was the harshest and even that wasn't so bad. Come to think of it, we call them reviews rather then crits so that could be it? As far as ugly studios go, I think the Arts Tower takes the prize.

Tallest building in Sheffield and we have the top 7 floors, only redeeming factor is the nice view

Lincoln School of Architecture, built for the school to show us it doesn't matter how useless you are at design, as long as you can sell poop you can build anything!

Arts Tower rocks!!! The wind down the bottom between the library is awesome

Still got the paternoster?

Yup, and still get the curious first years wondering what would happen if you stayed at the bottom/top of it:D

And we hate you! Not mechanical engineers just you! :p;)

Aero

Nothing changed then i seem to be fated in life to be hated, mistreated only good thing is i had sense and stopped being a mechanical engineer :p Saves me a lot of hassle explaining to clients, architects etc that sorry the hole in the building you left vertically isnt big enough for a few pipes let alone the ventilation system you need installed :p
