Any Drummers On The Forum?

602 RIDE £20 !!!!! :O , I wish I was older and had a job , DW drumkit with a mix of K Customs and A customs would be bliss :P

All those cymbals have been bought over the past 10 years :D Just replaced the old crappy ones i had when they broke with decent metal :)

 If it's in good nick, that's possibly the bargain of the century! I sold my drum kit a couple of months ago as I'm saving up for an electric one, and I had someone offer me a price I couldn't turn down - miss it now! (I've played drums for 17 years, this is the first time I've not had one at home) I had a 6-piece Gretsch Catalina Birch with a Pearl Masters Snare, and a large assortment of Paiste 2002/Signature cymbals. I love the 2002 cymbals, fantastic sound :)

It's dented on the bell right next to the hole and it's got green blotches on it where the copper has reacted with something but it sounds lush! I've never cleaned it because i'm worried it might change the sound. I am seriously jealous that you've got 2002's :p I've always wanted some of those :)

I teach drums and gig for a living. Been playing many years. A bunch of pics of my 9000 Recording Custom. Had this kit from new many years ago and it still sounds beautiful. There's a 602 in there as well. ;)

Unfortunately they went with the kit :( I had an 8" bell, 8/10/11" splashes, 14" medium hi hats, 16/17/19" crashes and an 18" 2002 China - real shame as they were awesome. The 21" Signature Full Ride and 20" Giant Beat weren't bad either! A few years of hard work and a bit of space and I shall buy my babies back :D

On a related note my 9 year old nephew has just passed a drum grade that now allows him to teach.
Which grade would that be?

You don't necessarily have to have drum grades to teach. We're quite lucky compared to other instruments where it's compulsory for them. Some schools might ask for them, but none of my schools did, nor private students. I teach rockschool and guildhall syllabus to grade 8 with a high success rate, all passes, several with merits or distinction. I would think grade 8 would be the prerequisite for the schools that require them. Certainly up to grade 6 would take care of GCSE standard in most cases. Congratulations to your nephew :) I doubt he would have studied higher than grade 3 for his age, unless of course he's some kind of whizzkid. Maybe he is :D What syllabus was it?

I don't know, I'll find out but he is taught by Stoke's leading drum tutor called Ron Rolf.
This is Ryan aged 6 but I keep telling his dad that he needs the music louder so that he can keep time better.
The music comes from a little speaker on the floor in front of his bass drum and he wears ear muffs so he is basically guessing.
You can hear how loud the music is, none existent.
I took my studio headphones up which muffled the sound of the drums but he could hear the backing track better but his dad wasn't interested :(

That's Rockschool grade 3, a track called 'Download'. He's very, very good for his age, and that means that 3 years on, ie, now at age 9, yes he may well have passed grade 6, 7 or 8. That's quite something for a kid under 13, he's a natural. Excellent stuff! He kept time well considering the volume, but I have a splitter where myself and students both put our headphones in so we can both hear the track. In the Rockschool studios where they take the exams, they have it blasting out of speakers so it's not a problem there, but for home use, headphones are best unless you can have it blasting from hifi speakers.

You never mentioned you played drums you dark horse.

You are better than Ringo Starr if that makes you feel better.

;) I play lots of instruments.

Check this out with loads of short videos (War Pigs was the same session where I was showing the drummer how it goes).
This is my side project band where I actually get on guitar.

I've been playing since I was 11, so thats 17 years in total.. I guess I'm pretty much a jazz/fusion player, I grew up endlessly listening/playing along to the likes of funkadelic/george clinton/pfunk allstars, D Chambers was probably my biggest influence.
I was taught for 7 years by one of the UKs best drum tutors, (he now teaches for Drumtech in London) During my time with him I didn't pursue any grades or formal education - I can barely read music, but I pretty much learnt as much as is humanly possible about feel, especially with shuffle/funk etc.

I've led a bit of a recluse life as a drummer, but nowadays I'm messing around doing my own studies, mostly centred around fast drum & bass - recording video and full kit, mainly for a laugh - but it's great fun! Basically taking very old school grimy D&B tracks by the likes of Ed rush & optical etc, then playing over the top, some straight fat grooves, breakbeat, jungle and rudiment based grooves played very fast, (inverted paradiddles over ride/hats/snare) trying to add feel, rather than sound like a drum machine..

Gear wise:

Currently playing a Sonor SQ2 in Walnut roots, with black chrome hardware, sizes are:

10x8
12x10
14x12
16x15
22x17

With a 14"x4.5" Zildjian Alloy snare drum.

Cymbals I currently have are:

14" UFIP Class series hihats,
20" Zildjian K custom dry ride
19" Zildjian K custom hybrid crash
16" Zildjian K custom fast crash
16" Zildjian oriental china trash
17" Zildjian K china
9" Zildjian K hybrid splash

Kits i've owned in the past:

DW Collectors exotic Olive ash burl (7pc)
Tama Starclassic maple, Marine blue fade (6pc)
Pearl masters MMX (6pc)
Premiet XPK (5pc)
CB percussion (5pc) my first kit! :p

Ah ok, I wondered if it was a guy called Eric who teaches at Drumtech and featured in the series a couple of years ago where celebrities learnt an instrument to perform at a concert/whatever. I think he taught Aled Jones who had to play a Led Zeppelin song at a gig!

I was taught by the drummer from Bravado, Dean Cousins, very good drummer.

Ive decided on scrapping the 18" hats and ive got with some Zildjian K Mastersounds 14" Decided that 18's would slow me down to much!

i also have a new 18" Dark Medium Thin sat next to me :) just awaiting the 22" K Light Ride!

Also put an enquiry for a Craviotto 14" x 6.5" in 1Ply Birdseye Maple, Diamond Inlayed! Memphis drumshop is the only place i can find so far costing over $1000 dollars, so enquiring in england!
