Any good mmorpgs that aren't about dungeons and dragons?

I don't know about anyone else but WoW has rather ruined MMORPGs for me. I played it way too much for way too long and I have no will to play it ever again, but to me most other MMOs just feel like poor WoW clones. I'd love to get into an MMO again but all the ones I've tried haven't really engaged me.

I was interested in Fallen Earth since I really enjoyed Fallout 3 but metacritic wasn't exactly full of praise...

Have to argree with borrish even though I was playing MMOs long before WOW came along. It does seem to be the reference point for MMOS in the same way as take that seem to be considered the first boy band by many although there were many before them.

Shame there isn't a Tunnels and Trolls MMORPG

I'd pay for that. I still have a box set of the game in my garage.

To the OP, City of Heroes was a game I played for a couple of years before falling foul of the dark side and switching to WoW.

Champions Online never grabbed me, I played City of Heroes for about 2 years though! CO just felt like a dumbed-down version. :(

I'm not suggesting that. I'm not talking about the Dungeons and Dragons franchise I'm talking about traditional fantasy themes like dungeons, dragons, knights and wizards.

So actually your after a none high fantasy MMO? There is a difference.

I don't think you were playing the same Aion as the rest of us :)

Heh probably. Which one had demons and cyberpunk in an urban city setting?

I guess it depends on what experience the OP wants in his MMO. Just non-fantasy or what settings appeal? Combat orientated or social experience? Are gfx important (3d, MUDs, overhead, brand new only)?
Crafting / trophy pursuits - there is a Wii garden / house builder game where you can visit your friends virtual homes, voice chat and trade stuff.
Hell, even Freerealms is amusing for 20 minutes until Sony start trying to tap you for micropayments.

I never had Tunnels and Trolls but looking across from my desk I can still see sitting on my shelf all five boxes of the Original 1983 (not advanced) Dungeons & Dragons sets.

Basic, Expert, Companion, Master and Immortals sets. :D
