Any idea when OCUK will be getting this new IcyBox NAS?

Been thinking about one of these

See lots of thes being talked about but not yet got any stars on the main site.

Wonder if the are two many problem in putting them into action. Its putting me off as I am not that techy and just want as simple solution. Help

'Best' all really depends on your personal needs, if you require a relatively secure backup storage solution then RAID 1 would be the ideal choice, however if you just require a general storage area and aren't too worried about potential data loss then JBOD will be fine.
Judging by results on here its not particularly worth going RAID0 over the other options.
If and when I get this I would most likely be using RAID1 as I want it to store my photos, music etc, so may have to stump up for some of the larger drives.

Thanks it for secure storage so Raid 1 sounds like the way for me to go. Anyone recommend good drives to use for this. I read that the samsung are not working well in this particular NAS

Just got one of these a few days ago - absolutely fantastic, its all working straight off the bat, itunes server, RAID, FTP etc - it even streams quick enough to watch 1080p content (not sure that will go when more than 1 person is using the server). However the torrent client is rather slow, which is no real biggie (hoefully a firmware upgrade in the future will help this?)

Oh and by the way it is working very well with the x1 Samsung 750Gb HD.:)

I'm thinking about getting one of these, it seems perfect for what I need and better than setting up a PC to act as a fileserver.

I got a few questions though..

Say if I were to stream a movie to 3 different devices would this device handle it... the devices it would be stream too would be a xbox 360, and two pcs one connected via wireless.

If I did buy one it would house all my data, so will I be able to download streight to the device instead of downloading to my pc and then transfering the file to the NAS.

Also whats the noise like on these things, is it pretty quiet?

Is there much of a speed increase using 1GB network instead of 10/100?

Sorry about the stupid questions, this will be my first NAS and I don't know much about them lol :).

Oh and OcUK any idea when your getting them back in stock?

I just tried watching 3 movies simulatenously as well as music playing all from the Icybox - it copes very well, no stuttering at all. Playing HD films is a different matter tho (1080p) It will only stream 1 movie and nothing else at all - even pausing and playing a music file at the same time produces stuttering. To answer your question its fine for standard movies.:)
