Hi guys.

I just set up a Crucial M4 on my mates Asus P6T Deluxe Board.
I updated the firmware. i then Cloned his standard HD to his M4 drive using EaseUS Todo Backup Free 4.0, which i always use with no problems.
It copied ok and starts fine.
I done the test, but seems very slow!. i know he wont get the top end speed due to the Marvell controller! but surley not this slow.
I then changed it to AHCI from what i read it's what it needs to be set on!
Looks like windows is starting to boot up, but then it restarts all the time, so have to put it back to IDE.
Anyone got any ideas please?

hmmm did he in install windows with ide? got to install with ahci I think; ya your speeds are quite low. Is he running via sata 3?

Oh so he has to reinstall windows from scratch. ? yes installed windows via IDE.
Yes using sata 3. he will be gutted as everything all setup on his Normal HD.

Cheers.

You need to ensure AHCI is enabled in the registry.
Restart the pc, goes into bios set it to IDE.
Boot into windows and perform the REGFIX from Microsoft.

edit: pretty sure that the P6T only has sata2 ports, not sata3, in which case your speeds are about right.

Yup, that board doesn't have SATA III, so it'll be limiting the SSD.

Best to do a fresh install with AHCI set. That way, it will be setup correctly (you can do this via a registry change instead) and it will be a nice new clean install.

it has 6 xSATA 3 Gb/s ports

It's a P6T Deluxe/OC Palm

I'm sure it's in the SATA3 port.
Seem to be bit slower opening the internet browers now..
Scores better! but do you think it's still abit slow?

Cheers guys.

No mate it has Sata 3GBit ports which is sata2/II, Sata 6GBit is Sata3/III. Confusing i know. (Sata1 is 1.5GBit)
Your speed of 250MBit is about the max a sata2 port can hit, so you're about bang on with speed.
You won't get much if anything more out of that port/drive combo i'm afraid.

Oh ok thanks for clearing that up guys :)

Got any idea why opening web browers have a good 4 second delay now..
Tested the speed of the net, and all seems fine!

Seemed quicker to me when it was on IDE lol.
Maybe he should start from scratch?
Do you think he wasted money getting 1 of these?

Cheers guys :)

Getting the M4? Not a waste of money per se, but it's full glory is restricted by your sata2 port i'm afraid.
That said, it should be wayyyy faster than any mechanical drive he had in there previously.
I've cloned many mechanical drive onto SSD's, but 2 out of every 5 i end up reformatting/reinstalling as something never quite works as well as it should.
I'd go for a re-install if i were you to get the best performance.
