Evening.

I've not long bought my first property, I get the keys on the 28th of this Month. I can't wait, I want it to be a pretty ace place to live so I want some ideas.

Currently, I have some motion sensored lights for the stairway and bathroom for the night. :p Which should be handy to say the least especially with my daughter.

Got some shelving for my monitor and PC which will look smart.

Anything you have in your house that you'd recommend that's a little out of the ordinary or just generally pretty useful/must haves?

Security is a good thing to have with any house.

any outbuildings such as sheds garages, make sure they have locks/bolts on.
Outside motion light, so any movement the light will come on (a must I think).

Coffee machine :)
Depending on if you like coffee, or if your a tea person get a tea maker?
Or if you don't drink hot drinks a smoothie maker is also a great idea.

Hmm what else, I am sure there's lots more tbh but those are the things that just sprung to mind :)

Going back to the security, if you are planing on living there a while with your partner? A dog is a good choice, gives you exercise, keeps you company, and adds security to your house wile your asleep and away from your home. Labrador's are ok if you train them while they are young. (it doesn't matter what dog you have tbh a burglar will hear that bark and go straight past your house)

Security is a good shout, I didn't even think of that really. :o

I only drink cold drinks, so I'm going to be getting a fridge/freezer with an ice maker as that's what my parents have and I swear by it. :D

It's just me that'll be living there, and my daughter on the weekends too. A dog is a good shout tbh, my daughter loves them too and there are quite a few perks to having one.

LED lighting. I've made all my own but every step on a staircase, under the kitchen cupboards, in the cupboards and general night lighting needs LEDs. Never too many LEDs IMO :D

I've got a dimmer unit for the bathroom, works on a twisting rod system.
All the others use a pull cord arrangement which isn't as nice, but this was an inventors prototype unit and I'm not sure if it is still manufactured.

Really nice to go for a wee in the middle of the night and not to be blinded.

LED lights are good energy savers and last for years but quite expensive. I have a slow growing collection of them in my flat.

Fire and carbon monoxide alarms.

I still can't believe that in today's overindulgence into life style luxuries that people still ignore the most important gadget they could ever own.

They really aren't gadgets though, they're necessities/standard home devices. Anybody that doesn't have both must be slightly wrong in the head.
