Any new MMO's to look out for?

Is there any way to get into the open beta easily without stupid crap like subscriptions to fileplanet? From video's it looks a little, wrong, ie fancy long animations and I read similar, one guy was getting owned because one of his attacks roots his character and is so slow everyone can get out the way and do their own attack before he's allowed to move again, which seems flawed as hell.

Don't want to pre-order incase it is sucky, pre-ordered Warhammer, which i'd just flushed the cash down the toilet instead.

Champions Online I assumed would at the worst be prettier COX, but its far far FAR worse, which is beyond stupid, unless theres some hefty changes soon can't see anyone sticking with it for long bar consoler's desparate for some MMO action.

its going free to play soon with cash shops :D

lol? really.

The biggest flaw I felt from 2-3 weeks of play, was zero need for communication, ridiculously easy, in other games I tend to find in actual PvP it gets so hectic you aren't talking to people or adding friends to lists, its in the open world on pve content you band together and chat while traveling, thats where the "community" comes from.

Adding a awful chat interface coupled with uber easy gameplay and X marks the spot type questing and no one needed help, groups were unnecessary, no one talked, few friends were made, so few groups of friends joined PVP together which also meant PvP lost its edge.

If theres zero difficulty or struggle in the game, and no challenge, who the hells going to keep coming back?

Well open beta hasnt started yet, so not sure what kind of system they will have in place for open beta. But I expect it would be something along the lines of fileplanet or similar. Cant say that I have had any issues with animations being too long, but its hard to say in the long run as the closed beta is only on version 1.0, not version 1.5 that release is on. I did a quick browse of some english speaking forums for the chinese version and havent noticed anyone complaining about animation lengths, so maybe that is remedied by 1.5.

Obviously though its less of an issue if your groupmates are cc'ing the target.

Ultimately though, a lot of western players wont like Aion. I'm not sure what kind of MMO you like, but you may find its not to your taste. You are permanently flagged, and people can and will kill you while you pve if a rift (a temporary portal) opens up in your land. Its also got more of an oldschool grind to it and I think those two things combined will put off quite a lot of possible western subscribers. (though those are two things that I like in an MMO..so lucky me :D )

Whats actually the difference between Aion EU/US and the Asian version? I keep missing this point, other than language its , well, the same game right? or have the quite radically updated or changed parts of the game to suit a different audience.

Basically if its the same damn game in a new language, whats with all the beta stages of a game thats already shipped elsewhere?

The chinese version is on 1.5 , it has stacks more content (3.5 gigs worth), lots more dungeons etc etc, as well as all the other usual changes that you get in patches.

The US/EU beta version is on 1.0.

Theres quite some differences, but the main reason for the western betas isnt to test game mechanics or bugs, its to test hardware and for localisation and translation purposes. Hence why they havent bothered to whack it up to version 1.5. At release in the NA/EU, it will be on version 1.5.

I'm surprised Darkfall didn't get a mention because it was in the light a few months ago. Anyway I tried it because a few of my mates were palying it and I found it really boring. It's a never ending grind fest. If they fixed the PvE a bit and lessened the grind, it would be a pretty decent game IMO.

Mortal Online is the only one I've really been vaguely interested in lately, no time to play it though but it does look like fantastic fun :)

It's only a grindfest if you choose to grind.

It really does amaze me that everyone new thinks they need to grind when you do not need to.

Darkfall is the first MMO I've played in ages that I'm actually enjoying, it deserves time to get used to though but it's a blast after the first month of getting used to things.

Star Wars TOR is the only one that is interesting at the moment with full voice acting for players and npc's.

Imo Darkfall is worth the money, but isn't fully complete yet really as their are some things that the devs will work on to make it better.

but all in all it's not for everyone as it's a niche game.

Not to mention how bad the majority of the community was aswell though. It was way worse than WoW's. Typical angry PvP'ers!
