I know theres a few of you here, im just having thoughts about my next car, as some may know i have a Focus ST3, which is simply fantastic, lovely comfortable and bloody quick-ish:p

But its a 3 door and im not too keen on the 5 door version, plus the boots tiddly, so im thinking about the Octy, it looks a bit bigger and on the practicality side it seems to fit what im looking for (ie decent boot etc)

Whilst i dont pay for my fuel, im increasingly fed of wasting my valuable time at petrol stations:p

So basically those that own them, or have owned one, what do you think? Is the quality on a par with VW? What sort of miles do you get on a full tank? Is it comfortable over long runs? one thing i like about the ST is that its not quite as harsh as the CTR,Megane,VXR etc etc im not after a track focussed (pardon the pun) car.

Anything else I should be looking at?

At a push I get 330 on the ST, and thats mainly motorway driving.

So is the MK2 a Golf GTI in drag still? you got any pics of you interior and boot?

Blimey thats a pretty big boot for a golf:p

Well its certainly a candidate, None of the other HotHatches really do anything for me in this sector, and the mondy ST is too dear for me.

At the mo, im looking at a diesel A3, or a base spec C class. The Octy offers me the sporty and sensible alternative

Its not a lucky car, i just drive it very slowly:p

Nah pretty much all motorway miles at 70mph with no sudden manouvres, problem is this is a car that just begs to be 'driven'.

Im not fussed about the cost as its likely to be a company car with a fuel card, im not unhappy with the focus, i just fancy a change, and im not yet ready to buy a 3 series repmobile yawnfest.Reading around you can get 400 miles in a octy/Golf GTi, thats a 100 more miles to a tank, compared to the usual 280-300 i get at the mo.

Exactly what Im picking up in 2 weeks time

2.0 16v pdtdi 170 bhp Octavia Vrs 6 spd.
258lb/f (evo torque) coming with 18" alloys, maxidot display, centre arm rest with air conditioned storage, air con glovebox, cruise control etc.

Whats the modding potential on the 170bhp diesel?

Focus is due for replacement as the lease finishes,(plus i have a new job/position on offer).

I can see where your coming from on the rep comment, but im not a big fan of the BMW's i can afford, ie 318/320,and generally i wouldnt have a bimmer, as being asian and driving a flash bimmer generally gives the impression your a dodgy geezer:p not a image i want to project.

Then again prob not a good idea to buy a taxi either:p

the other downside is your family know you have a car that will take loads of stuff with the seats down and you inevitably get asked to move stuff or take loads of stuff to the tip or got to bloody ikea to get a flat pack wardrobe

Got that one covered, i convinced the old man to sell his faux MPV and buy a Merc Sprinter:D

If it has to be new and you can stretch to the 330 then the VRS makes more sense. Would rather the VRS to a 320 bmw.

Exactly, proper bimmers ie 6 pots (p or d) are simply superb, but way out of my price range, a lad at work has bought a 335d,that was a staggering 33k, aside from the engine, the car isnt all that truth be told
