Any Octavia VRS owners here??

if theres one trait a taxi needs its reliability (and a huge boot) as days of the road is lost income

so if a lot of taxi drivers pick a car...that tells me its a reliable one! (and you can get a shedload of suitcases in it or a couple of prams if you have a large brood)

Focus is due for replacement as the lease finishes,(plus i have a new job/position on offer).

I can see where your coming from on the rep comment, but im not a big fan of the BMW's i can afford, ie 318/320,and generally i wouldnt have a bimmer, as being asian and driving a flash bimmer generally gives the impression your a dodgy geezer:p not a image i want to project.

Then again prob not a good idea to buy a taxi either:p

if you are a father then you might as well get used to it! dads taxi only gets used more as they get older

the other downside is your family know you have a car that will take loads of stuff with the seats down and you inevitably get asked to move stuff or take loads of stuff to the tip or got to bloody ikea to get a flat pack wardrobe

Also got a Octy vRS in Black picked it up on 01/10/07 after having the 2.0 TDi Elegance for 3 Years. Well impressed with it especially given all the free extras they were giving away, think they still are. 18" Alloys, Dual Zone Climate Control and Electric Rear Windows. I also added Xenon Headlights, Light Assist and Rain Sensing Wipers. They were also throwing in 3 Years or 30K Miles free servicing as well.

MPG getting 400 to a tank on a run, bit less round town around 320/350 depending on how I boot it.

Ive currently got a company 1.9 classic also and a leon cupra at home, the vrs I had for a week demoing was not comparable to the 105 bhp tank as it was so much more of a beast (getting from 500-600 per tank in the classic), The cupra is fairly tweaked and would be faster all round though the torque of the vrs almost felt as strong, the first 2 gears are certainly as tyre shredding as the cupra but a lot more tame in the rest.
Wohoo the 170 is quite tuneble as most companies now have code for them, the dpf filter is going to be the only concern though as its a company wagon ill be leaving it well alone remap wise.
Steviec, yea I ordered mine on the last day of the 1k of free options, the tax man will only be hitting me for the bixenons and maxidot display, the dual climate, 18"ers, rear leccy windows, air conned glovebox and armrest box are all tax free :)

You might get very fed up of people just jumping in the back and saying a street name :)

If it has to be new and you can't stretch to the 330 then the VRS makes more sense. Would rather the VRS to a 320 bmw.

Got that one covered, i convinced the old man to sell his faux MPV and buy a Merc Sprinter:D

Exactly, proper bimmers ie 6 pots (p or d) are simply superb, but way out of my price range, a lad at work has bought a 335d,that was a staggering 33k, aside from the engine, the car isnt all that truth be told

Whats the modding potential on the 170bhp diesel?

Problematic so I'm told - they have a particle filter which can't take much more exhaust gas through than standard and it trips the ECU into limp home mode. The engines also not that great IMO - typical VAG roughless and the 170 is more laggy than the 140, much the same as the fact that the old 130 was a nicer drive than the 150.

I bought a 2.0T vRS in September in Race Blue to replace my Mondeo ST TDCi. The engine is a peach - very linear power for a turbo car and it keeps pulling right to the redline. It's fairly quiet when cruising but has a nice rasp when you boot it, although not to the extent the Focus ST has. Fuel economy is very variable - with the Mondeo you could drive like a loon and it would never drop below 40mpg, the vRS will drop to about 20mpg when hooning around the back roads and I've had 40mpg on a long motorway run at 70mph with the cruise control on. I don't do anything like as many miles as I used to so I'm not overly fussed, but it is certainly a fair bit more economical than a Focus ST.

As for the rest of the car it's a bit of a mixed bag compared to the Mondeo although I guess you have to say the Mondeo is from the class above. The ride isn't as good and it's not as quiet at high speed crusing. The handling, whilst not being at all bad, is not quite as good as the ST either - it doesn't steer and change direction with the fluidity of the Mondeo and the body control isn't as polished as it rolls slightly around tight bends and the steering is a bit less communicative. The vRS has much better brakes both in terms of feel and stopping power and the car is better balanced under braking.

The interior on the vRS is pretty solid and well put together, but the cruise control is a bit fiddly to use and there is no remote stalk to control the stereo. Passenger space is good but I do notice the lack of width in the front compared to the Mondeo when I have a front seat passenger. The climate control works fine, the stereo is pretty good (although not quite up to the standard of the Sony units in Ford's) and has both MP3 capability on the HU and a 6 disc changer which is in the boot. The seats aren't as good as Ford Recaro's but are comfortable and hold you in place well. The centre armrest has an Aux in socket which good for an Ipod the armrest to adjustable for height and you can move it forward and back which is useful.

I'm not sure if its the colour or the fact it's a Skoda but I do find every prat in a van and chavs seems to want to race me far more than they did the Mondeo!

Nope it's not the colour I've also found that, even young girlies in Ford Ka's and Grannies in Metro's and mine is Black with the windows blacked out.

Also find it a pain on the M6 Toll no matter what speed I go at people fly up behind, slam on and then creep past and fly off again. Thinking I'm one of the many unmarked ones of the road.

I've test driven a 2.0TFSI Octavia vRS Estate.

It wasn't bad but it wasn't all that quick and didn't feel very special inside. You can also see areas where they have deliberately made it cheap to seperate it from the VW alternatives - to close the tailgate you pull a strap rather than a proper handle for example. The interior wasn't poor quality but it wasn't exactly fantastic. There was lots of wind and road noise at 70mph.

It was alright I guess. Not that much worse than the current shape Passat but thats hardly praise.

Indeed! I'm fixing this by getting a 2 seater next! I mean, a 'sensible' car like an Octavia at 23 was a disgraceful choice on my part I suppose!
