Any performance improvements going from PCIe 1.0a -> PCIe 2 for a single HD6970 ?

Hi,

I have a HD6970 which is in my C2Q 9450 machine using a MSI main board with only PCIe 1.0a.

Would I see any big benefits going up to PCIe 2 on a H67 based board with an i5 2500(k or not but don't intend to overclock).

I am aware of the bandwidth differences but would like to know if they are likely to be having an impact on my system and if so would the new processor and PCIe bandwidth make a big difference.

Thanks
RB

okay then :).

Looks like I may need to pop out and get that i5 today.

Any idea what sort of performance benefits I am likely to see ?, Anyone aware of any decent comparisons ?

Thanks
RB

I don't think you'll see much difference upgrading the PCI-E from 1.0 to 2.0 if it's already running at 16x, but the 2500K should give a decent boost and allow your 6970 to stretch its legs more.

So ultimately you should get better GPU performance but more from the upgraded CPU than the PCI-E.

^^ that's the long answer ;)

Thanks Guys,

All installed and working. Will see how it runs as the old partw are going in to my sons machine so I can partly compare :D.

From the PCI-e spec perspective aslong as your on atleast 8x PCI-e 1.x then going to PCI-e 2.0 will not show any gains outside of benchmarks and your talking a handful of percent nothing you will notice in the real world.

The faster CPU and generally faster system buses, etc. on the SB platform will make a little more odds tho.
