Just started using my parents Sky account to use Sky Player. I'm not a huge fan of the site but it has high quality versions of Lost, 24, Prison Break etc... is there any need to buy the DVD box set anymore?

I then noticed that Sky Player is now serving BBC iPlayer links:

I thought BBC were in dealings with ITV for some random massive on demand service? Could Sky now be joining it?

I can't remember the last time I watched a TV at home, although I just signed up to Virgin yesterday on a 70 quida month deal!

I use iplayer, my parents skyplayer account and 4OD, no need to buy a tv or a licence. Makes my monthly out goings a bit easier!

Even though you dont have a TV, if you can receive and watch TV shows over the Internet a licence is still legally required. IIRC.

EDIT: Just checked HERE

The link you provided said:
You need a TV Licence to use any television receiving equipment such as a TV set, digital box, DVD or video recorder, PC, laptop or mobile phone to watch or record television programmes as they're being shown on TV.

So, unless any of these services allow you to watch these things live, you don't need a TV licence. Watching things retrospectively, whilst they're NOT being broadcast at the same time, you don't.

Despite what is being said i heard perfectly clear on the radio the other day that you still need a TV licence to watch programmes online such as BBC iPlayer, Sky Player & 4OD etc. which i think is a load of ***** and i don't get how they can impose this?? The things we watch on the internet on iPlayer etc are only previously aired programmes, nothing like the crap adverts we have on TV at the moment.

I use my TV to watch movies/DVD purely these days, its only because its bigger than my monitor and hooked up to my stereo.

Pay £3 to watch film, or just buy it for £2.99 on hd-dvd :D

Ok ok ok not all films are bargain hd-dvds :p

Freeview does its job for me, but won't be paying my tv license next year if I can't be bothered with tv.

£70... a month

And people say Sky are expensive, holy crap man!

that will be decent BB speed, most channels and phone line to boot.
sky is seemingly cheaper because they dont include the BT phone line rental that you have to pay ;]

Let's see....

TV Licence, £110ish per year
Total number of us in the house, 5
Cost per person, per year, £22, or £1.83 a month

lol!

Obviously different if you live just 2 in the house, but even that is under a fiver a month.
