Any SAD sufferers here?

Also, people that are "always" happy, you know the type. They annoy me. I had to work with one for far too long.

im usually happy all ywar round but this seasonal area ive been mainly down and i guess sad. though for me, i just think its me being alone(single). just annoying unable to find someone i like and over days get more downhill in mood.:(

Another fake condition made up for people to use as a crutch when they're feeling a bit grumpy. Codswallop.

Erm it's a vitamin deficiency, cause by lack of sunlight which produces Vitamin D in the body, its not different that Scurvy, and can lead to Rickets in children

I don't normally comment on grammar :p but that sucked.

Ps. Don't get down about such things, you'll find someone. It's a cliché but it's true, don't put so much effort in to thinking about it nor finding someone.

SAD is between 8.30 and 5.30 for me during the winter when it gets dark early.

No windows here so its really bad :|

I did some temp work a fair few years back in a big warehouse.

Got to work and it was dark outside, left work and it was still dark outside :(

I would have thought its more melotonin related if anything? Does unnatural light even lead to the same vitamin benefits as the sun?
I still think its hogwash, people are so happy to blame their feelings on something nowadays you only have to look at the US pharmaceuticals market to see this.

I use a lumie alarm clock which really helps in the morning. I still struggle to get out of bed as I'm generally not a morning person but waking up with a light is easier than when I didn't have it.

Plus when I go into the bathroom and switch the light on I'm not covering my eyes as I've already got used to the "sunrise" from my alarm clock :p

That's about as much as I do to help it.

No lightbulbs do not produce UVA light which is necessary for the skin to break down cholestrol into Vitamin D.

I do agree there are some hypochondriac, but this is a legitimate fact.
90% of your Vitamin D dependency is made from sun exposure. Your daily recommended intake/use is roughly 2000iu, which is equivilant to about a days sun exposure. From googling, 8oz of milk contains only 100iu, and a large piece of salmon at most 600iu. Basically you can't always get enough from a dietary means.
Surely you can feel the effects yourself, do you not feel more relaxed and happier sitting in the sun?

I will be finding out tomorrow if i have a Vit D deficiency or not, been quite a bad year for me and last time i had a check-up the consultant said i should have some checks but i haven't had the results. It would explain a lot though for me :o

I used to but haven't for the last couple of years, but that may be down to the Panasonic light thing I have.

Most people are a bit miserable in the winter probably due to having a lowered VitD level, but it doesn't mean it effects them completely. There are those, and I'm sure a lot of people don't have it and a lot of people don't know they do.
However a disorder is an abnormal condition effecting an organism, which it is in people with already low levels of VitD or those who don't see enough sun.

I don't have it by the way, that I know of.

I sometimes feel down in the evenings, from 5-7pm...was fine before December.

It just comes over me without any depressive thoughts bringing it on and I feel like going to bed. Then it passes and I feel back to normal again. SAD?

Supplement with high doses of vitamin D3 and magnesium, I supplement with 5000iu D3 and 1g chelated magnesium (500g separated with lunch and dinner, then ZMA before bed), has some great effects on health.

Ideally, check your hormonal levels too (Primary testosterone, cortisol and overall adrenal gland health). Hormone imbalance can cause symptoms of SAD, Bipolar and many other problems that could be cured by archiving a positive balance.

Equivalent to a days sun exposure? You can get over 10,000iu of vitamin D from the midday sun alone sometimes. 2000iu is not enough to bring low levels up, you will need 5000iu per day or 30,000iu twice per week (which studies show is more effective somehow, * don't forget, the body can store vitamin D) for atleast 8 weeks to bring up low levels in the blood. (You will need a blood test to make sure you have archived the desired levels) After this, 2000iu should be OK for maintenance spring/summer and 5000iu during winter.
