Any (stoke) locals know of interesting restuarants?

Echo Stone for some really good food

- the Wayfarer since it was taken over and done up is just fabulous. Very difficult to get a table, book in advance. The beef Wellington I had this Saturday was the best I've ever had. And I've eaten in some bloody good places :)
- had some very nice meals in the Mill restaurant
- Dolce Vita is nice home cooked style Italian
- Pizza de Piazza another Italian with more restaurant food
- The blue room does fantastic pies and skillet meals
- Chico's is a Mexican with huge portions

Hope that helps :-)

I know you wanted something exciting but I need to recommend the old plough in Hanley. Simply the best steaks you'll evier have in Staffordshire.

Interesting, I know some one who loves it but as he lives on frosties and aldi beans I ignored his recommendation :p

Edit : almost Chinese so you may be sick of it too but there's two really good Thai restaurants in Newcastle-under-Lyme. Blue chilli on king street, and Art of Siam right in the centre. Touch and go between which is better, I'd edge towards blue chilli, but prefer the authentic thaidecor in art of Siam so find myself going there more.

Not at all, every time I'm holidaying in the Lakes I have to eat at the thai in ambleside, should really make the effort to try the Thai's in newcastle at some point but I'm wary of taking people there because most people can't cope with the heat (so hot, but so tasty you can't stop).

Even a chinese could surprise me, but honestly most just do the english favourites and it gets very samey.

I can't decide which one I prefer either.. I found the staff in Blue Chilli were much more friendly - but the decor in the Art of Siam is great, slightly cheaper too.

I'd add La Dolce Vita in Stone to the list of Italian restaurants. We've been a few times and never had a bad meal there.

And almost opposit it is a great pub for real ale, the Swan. Always packed whatever evening I drive past.
South end of Stafford, not far from the motorway, there's the Moat House which is a great resteraunt in a really nice setting.

I was in there last Wednesday having my usual Swynnerton chips and Steak & kidney pie.
Double chips because Mrs Dimple didn't eat hers.

We also use the Man In Space, Trentham Hotel, The Gables, Harvester (next to Britannia), The Florence and Rose Of Kashmir in a Wednesday round robin although we haven't gone tonight.

The chips are by far the nicest I have had from any restaurant, and the portion sizes are brilliant for the price. The Trentham Hotel does a good carvery aswell.

And on the recommendation of Roberto's over Portofino's I'll have to give that a try
